class all other kids are moving to Year1.  The reason they are saying he only

started to learn now, so it is better to keep him in the same place.  It is a

special school, and he will take one place if he is staying in the same class.

***Bring it up at an open parental governors meeting? If you know of a

teacher that has helped kids like your son then ask if he can go in

that class instead. Is the problem the teacher or the school itself?

This might help you...

....have you tried also asking your local NAS branch which schools

their kids go to or which teachers have helped their kids? North

Wiltshire is on fb if that helps. Just to be clear NAS branches and

NAS HQ are very different they dont always agree with each other.

My local NAS branch feels abandoned by NAS HQ all this because

prioritising the upgrade of Somerset court 21k was more important than

the rest of NAS.

If you don;t like the teacher keeping him moving on to year 1 would be a way of getting rid of her. There are kids in that school I am sure that didn't start learning till later grades or not at all.

As less and less folks get funding for special ed they want to keep spaces in older classes for the failed at mainstream kids who should have been in SEN in the first place, do what you think is right. Does he have friends?

Sam's school went through a period of only have one kid in reception, for 8 places which they usually keep to 6 students, because LEA's were refusing to fund until full on failure in mainstream whilst parents are trying their best to get kids in reception

did an extra year in primary and has now moved up a year early from secondary to sixth form, in his case it has more to do with the logistics of the school, staff, awkward parent, etc.

So much depends on the school, I have always known in the special schools here the kids are doing pretty much the same aged 17+ as those aged 5yrs!

Hope it all works out whatever you choose.
