Guest guest
Hi Beth - Good question... does anyone EVER get well?????? I've only been dx for 6 months. However, I've been dealing with RA symptoms for 3 years intensely . I retired from a secretarial job with the school district (pretty much had no other choice) due to the principal feeling I just didn't want to do my job. People really don't understand. I tend to let people think what they want rather than defend myself - which would sound like excuses anyway. I too seem to be getting worse and the rhuemy continues to increase my medications. My question to all of you also is - isn't this disease accelerated/intensified by stress? Therefore the lack of family support and as with Steve lack of medical insurance, doctor, and medication..... duh! No wonder one would have trouble feeling better. Is there any solution? Guest guest
Beth, Welcome to our group. Gluten intolerance can cause the same symptoms as RA and many times when you eliminate gluten, symptoms go away. It is very difficult to totally eliminate gluten because it is hidden in so many places in our foods. How long ago did you eliminate gluten? Yes people do get well. Drug induced remissions are the goals that the doctors are seeking to achieve. We've had members leave the group because they go into remission and no longer need support. Hopefully we all will find the meds that put us into remission. a On Nov 15, 2005, at 3:10 PM, Beth wrote: > I'm new here too. Guest guest
a -- I've been gluten free for only about 2 months now, but I'm finding it to be quite easy. Of course, I had already given up most grains and had been following a mostly organic, whole foods diet in an attempt to help control the RA. So it wasn't much of a change for me. In fact, it became easier, as I upped my carbs a bit, so now having a baked potato or a bit of rice is a real luxury. I'm discouraged because after 4 years of battling with the RA, it's still getting worse and worse. I've lost a lot of usage of many joints and worry I will never get it back. My organs have been affected by the illness and I'm sure by the meds, so things aren't looking really chipper to me right now. But I do appreciate your kind response.
