Guest guest
As far as I know, SSD and private disability are not tied to each other and each shouldn't affect the other. Apply to each and see how far you can go with them. You're very fortunate to have those options. Many of us only have SSD or SSI to look forward to. I could have gotten a disability retirement from the company I worked for but I didn't play their politics, so I was just 'laid off'. It's a good thing my house was paid for. We cut and hauled pulpwood to buy the lumber to build our own house. It's not finished but comfortable to live in. The 'pretties are coming along a little at a time. Your life is turned around a number of times before it settles in to the 'slum' appearance. Ride it out and get all you can is all I can say. Dennis [ ] looking for disability advice/attorney Hi, everyone, I'm new to the group. I have RA, it's getting worse, and I'm a single mom of 3 young kids. I think it's time to admit that I can't do it all anymore. Ironically, I'm NOT interested in SSA disability, but I want to get federal disability retirement and payments from a policy that I bought from UNUM/Provident. Does anyone out there have experience with either of these procedures, or know a good attorney who does? Please email me at eemalawyer@.... Guest guest
karen, Good luck with Unum Provident. I am on disability (LTD) from my former employer. The fired me after refusing to allow me to rettrain for a job I could not. Yes you heard it right. The refused to participate in the vocational retraining program through UNUM that is a part of the policy for were they offer to there employees. Even though UNUM was going to pay for everything...including my salary, trainer and benefits during the time I was training. UNUM can be a bear at times...just keep up with the paper work...and document everything. I tend to coorspond with my case worker via e-mail so I have a record of everything.
