Re: > Sabine

Hi Sabine,I'll try my best to get something savoury through customs :-)The first few days here in Germany were great: 14 degrees, sunshine,no wind...And now the temperature dropped, it's about 5 degrees and raining. Thewhole family is sick, me included. We all have a fever, sore throat, cough, cold, ear pain, headache - as usual in winter. BUMMER, I sohoped I would be spared this year. Unfortunately, most medications arecombination drugs which include NSAIDs - and they are a big NO NO forbandsters - so I'm stuck with cough sirup and lozenges :-( On the bright side: I'm not hungry at all. I'm thirsty and make surethat I'm drinking enough (up to 3 litres of water and tea a day) buteven thinking of food makes me nauseous. Oh well, we'll be fine in afew days !How are you doing ? Getting used to the band ? I read that you're feeling better each day and I'm very glad for you !My flight back

to Sydney is on Wednesday night. I'm arriving Fridaymorning. So I'll have a few more days for shopping (it's winter saleright now and I bought heaps of clothes - they don't fit yet but willin a few months) and I'm happy to check if I can get Grünkohl mitPinkel for you. What I'm usually going for is instant soups(Griessklösschensupp e, Nudelsuppe etc.) because Australian customs isfine with these ones. Let me know if you want some too.Have a great weekend !Cheers,>> > Hello ,> Thanks for writing.> I done it !!!> Well to be honest, you ask me anything from Germany, I always thinkabout> food when I hear Germany.> So Gruenkohl with Pinkel would be nice. Something "herzhaft" that iswhat I> am longing

for.> Write back, when you can, let me know how Old Germany is going?> Thanks Sabine>

Re: Re: > Sabine

Hi Kellie

NSAIDs are non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. There's lots of them so won't do the list but ...

The usual precautions with NSAIDs apply more to bandsters than to the general population for two reasons. The medication can get caught above the band and when this happens, there is nothing there to break it down resulting in the tablet sitting against the wall of the stomach. This can lead to ulceration and gastric bleeding in severe cases. The other reason is that they have a tendency to reduce mucous production ... vicious cycle ... which means they are more likely to get stuck and you are more likely to have problems eating and so on.

... if you are reading ... you can take them, but you have to be more careful than the average Joe.

When you take them, make sure you have plenty of fluids after taking to ensure the meds move from the pouch to the lower part of the stomach. This means they will be broken down properly and it also means they will work!

Alternatively, take a liquid version.

Neither of these alternatives will stop the dehydrating aspect of the medication, but they will help and when you need to take them, you need them. Just take precautions when doing so.
