Jen I totally know what you mean by the house feeling empty :(  When Rowan died and it was just me and it seemed so quiet.  I went and got another kitty right away. Gizmo is in a better place and you did the right thing.

Another star will shine in the sky tonite.Peace,

Awww, Jen. I'm so, so sorry. Gizmo was obviously a very much loved kitty and certainly knew he was too. I pray for peace in your heart as you mourn this terrible loss.

It never gets easier, does it? Somehow it feels harder because Gizmo was my baby at 14. Mia at 19, soon to be 20 is the oldest. Thanks Donna. All Siamese cats have blue eyes. Gizmo had deep blue eyes and Mia has very light blue eyes. It is very hard to say Good Bye, even if you know it's best for your pet. Jen

Omg I can't WAIT to see pics of new babies!  Mia might  not like them at first but they will keep her young and bring out her inner kitten! Of the 2 cats I've had who are in Heaven, the oldest of the two was 14.5.  Mia is by far the exception and I'm jealous you have a 19 year old pudder!

Purrs and hugs.  Gizmo love you too, Jen.

Thanks , I know that you understand how I feel.  It was very hard but I couldn't keep watching him suffer...his quality of life was getting worse and worse.

I'm gong to get two kitties in the spring, hopefully Traditional Lynx Point Siamese.  It will be the first time I've got two kittens at the same time!  Hopefully Mia will tolerate it...I will have to make sure I pay attention to all three of them.

I have an Aussie, Hazel, who just turned one year old last week, and I have a 12

year old golden retriever, JJ, who has some chronic health problems. Right now

they aren't bothering him as much as they do me! Twelve is somewhat old for a

golden -- ten is " average " for them -- and I worry that things can change

suddenly.

It never does get easier.

She gave me options and I decided to have her inject the euthanasia solution in

could hold him and talk to him.  Gizmo let me hold him on his back so that she

in less than 5 minutes but he went so peacefully in my arms

Actually, I had a Lynx Point Siamese cat that lived to the ripe old age of 18! He would have lived longer but he had a problem with his bowel and he was

too old to be operated on. Siamese cats are known for their long lives. But two of my Siamese died young (in my opinion,) Cocoa who died at

13 from lymphoma and Gizmo at 14 who died from kidney disease. Both Cocoa and Gizmo were the "newer" variation of Siamese cat, sometimes referred to as "wedge-head." The older/original version of Siamese cats are

called Traditional or "Apple head," I think they are more hardy/strong cats. Their bodies are more muscular and their not as thin as wedge heads. I think that the Traditional Siamese are more beautiful too. Maybe when the breeders began changing the breed it made them weaker so that they died sooner than the other cats. Anyway, I'm going to test my theory by getting two Traditional Siamese cats. This is where I may buy my kittens from http://siamesevanscholten.com/ click on the pictures to see the kittens. My 19 year old Mia is half Apple head and Half wedge-head. She looks more like an Apple-head to me though and she sure is living a long time. I've had her since she was 5 weeks old!

Awww, Jen. I'm so, so sorry. Gizmo was obviously a very much loved kitty and certainly knew he was too. I pray for peace in your heart as you mourn this terrible loss.

I know that Mia will hate the two kittens at first. She hated Gizmo too when I brought him home but now she misses him. She's blind but she knows he's not here any more. She's very meowy and she keeps looking for him and meowing. He would always go to see what was wrong with her when she would cry. Jen

Sorry I made you cry . I was crying as I was typing my post. My mom told me today that she thought Gizmo was trying to get better for me. He tried so HARD but when I looked into his eyes I knew it was time. I kissed Gizmo a few times but I've always kissed my cats. I've had cats since I was 2 yrs old and I'm 46 now, so that's a

long long time. Your Grandma was right, pets are allowed to die peacefully. I don't believe in euthanizing healthy animals

though. That must have been a shock to you when the Vet found the tumor. At least with Gizmo I knew he was sick from kidney disease. The Vet managed well until he had problems with his thyroid too. My cat Gizmo was smart but my 19 yr old her Mia is smarter. She is the smartest cat I've ever had. My mom tells her I'm upstairs so she comes upstairs to find me. She is blind from cataracts but can still find her way around the house. My Vet gave me clippings of Gizmo's fur from his body and tail so I could have both of his colors. She also made a clay imprint of his paws. I'm going to have him cremated and put his ashes in an urn with a statuette of a Siamese on top.

Jen,

I'm sorry but I cried reading your post. It brought back memories from last July when I had to put my 13 year old Beagle Becky down. She was my life and the smartest dog in the world. She knew everything I said to her. She got up one morning and couldn't walk and barely move. We got her down to the vet and she had a cancerous tumor in her stomach. They said she would live only a couple of days. She was in pain, so it was time. I think we all know when its time for them. The one thing my grandma always told me was that they don't have to suffer like we do. They came in and I held Becky while she gave her the medicine. I kissed her face as she passed on. I had never done that before with a dog or human. I wasn't afraid, I loved her so much. She's buried out back and I bought her a stone that reads "Becky Loved Forever, Never Forgotten" and it has a beagle head on the top. I have another beagle who's 13 and has been having some health issues. I'm trying to just be thankful I have her now and not worry about tomorrow. She's still enjoying life and that's what counts the most.

It sounds like you did the right thing. I know how much it hurts and time is the only thing that will help you Jen.

Sending lots of hugs your way. ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))

Yea things can change fast with older pets and sometimes younger ones.My Vet did acupuncture on a Golden Retriever with arthritis in his hips and afterwards he was running around like a puppy! Maybe you can find a Vet to do that for your dog. JenSubject: Re: OT: GizmoTo: exercisevideos Date: Saturday, January 7, 2012, 9:39 PM
