Hi Bobbi.

I'm a new member, and have been lurking for a while.

DX about 5 years ago and RA in everything but elbows and OA in hands, knees,

and spine (with a chronic back condition I was born with).

Been dealing with RA in neck for a while and doc put me on flexerile (generic)

'as needed'. Also had a cortisone shot , which really helped me, and PT which

was a bigger help.

PT recommended a 'memory pillow' which really helped. I even travel with it and

it takes up space, but I'll go without a change of clothes and go the laudermat

rather than leave it at home.

I'm lucky that I have a doc who listens to me and respects my opinion.

Good luck.

I am not on any meds for RA yet. My dr. put me on muscle relaxers

for the my " stiff " neck. But it has been over a week now and they

are doing absolutely nothing for me. The nurse is supposed to call

tomorrow to let me know if the Doc will prescribe me something

else. Who knows, in my opinion all dr.'s treat you like a Drug

Seeker if you complain of pain. Hopefully they come up with an

answer to get me by until my Rheumy appt Dec. 5th.

Thanks to everyone for listening to me.

Hi Bobbi:

Yes, it seems that some doctors just don't get the

pain issue, luckily my doctors have always been very

good about it. As far as your neck, have you tried a

rice sock? I love mine - they form to your joints and

where ever else you have pain. Just take an old sock,

fill it with rice (not too full - needs to be

bendable), and stick in in the microwave for about 2

minutes - it's wonderful. You can even add in some

potpourri to make it smell better - a little

aromatherapy too. Hope your doctor is one of the good

ones -

I have been using Ultracet (Tramadol generic) now for

about 4 years. It has helped me - don't know how much

your doctor told you to take, but I ususally take one

to two, two to four times a day, as needed. It does

not take the pain away, but does take the edge off so

that it is tolerable. Hope it helps you -

Rose and Bobbi, Love my memory pillow also. It is a

great help. In fact so much that I went out and

bought a mattress. It really does make a difference

esp. with my hips and back. Hot soaks (esp in hot tub

with jets) and rice socks or heating pad also helps..

In cold weather sleeping under my electric blanket

helps a lot too. Hope you get relief soon.

Hi:

I have a memory foam topper for my bed, and a memory

foam contoured pillow. Got the mattress at Sam's club

- very reasonable - and the pillow at JC Penny on

sale. I have found both to be very helpful in my being

able to be more comfortable sleeping. I still have

pain, but not as much when I sleep on a plain

mattress. They can be a little pricey, but I think

both are a good investment.

And if you do itemized deductions on your tax forms, they can be included under

medical, since they are for your RA.
