i am keeping my fingers crossed for you, my friend. i am

obviously not a dr, just a person who has had these things happen

and has done some research.

but, it is sounding like a swollen disc now :/

so, please look at this web page:

http://www.backpain-guide.com/Chapter_Fig_folders/Ch07_Symptoms_Folder/Sciatica.\

html

does the diagram on the right with the blue line going down the

front of the leg represent your pain?

are your toes affected? especially the littlest ones?

if so, this would be a sciatic nerve pinch at S1, where your

spine joins the pelvis, with pain where you describe it -- low

back, almost on top of your butt, and in the middle. (the other

sciatic pinch locations would produce pain more on the right or

left sides). and running down the front of your leg, possibly

right down to your toes, if it has been allowed to progress that

much.

my rec is to stop irritating it. take fri, sat, sun to rest,

take anti-inflammatory meds, apply heat or ice or alternate both.

gentle stretching (not power yoga!). if you have to workout

do arms and shoulders while seated with back supported, chest

press and triceps while laying on your back, maybe some pushups

and planks.

if you have this pain for over a week and it is getting worse,

then you should see a medical person for help! they have some

good prescription anti-inflammatories that can break the pain

cycle pretty quickly.

hugs,

:*carolyn.

, I've been lurking, but reading about your back pain. I really hope it

gets better fast, and I couldn't agree more with what Carolyn wrote, especially

the last couple of paragraphs.

Carolyn - Thanks for the article link! I don't think I have ever had true sciatica - but I do get the pinched nerve thingy that makes my little toes go numb sometimes and that is my trouble area - L5/S1/S2....fascinating! Usually happens when I have neglected stretching my butt muscles! - I totally agree w/ Carolyn - as hard as it may be for you to do, you should take it easy and let it rest. Not doing so just results in more inflammation and pain and could end up resulting in something serious that needs more aggressive treatment and a longer restriction from exercising.

Take care!Donna> *Paying close attention to it today, it is worse when walking. In> fact, it almost brings it on. I also think standing brings it on> too. Yep, I third the notion.  Take 3 days off and do gentle, gentle back care stretches (not power yoga) Can you see a chiro?

Ooh - do you have Rodney Yee's Back Care Yoga or Barbara Benagh's Yoga for Stress Relief, both are excellent for back woes. Barbara's has a practice for the SI Joint and Lower back tension. I use those A LOT!Donna> *Paying close attention to it today, it is worse when walking. In> fact, it almost brings it on. I also think standing brings it on> too.
