oh, i just wanted to add, michelle, that if the pain gets worse

when sitting but feels better when you are standing or walking

(so it comes and goes), then it could be piriformis sciatica, as

another member mentioned. donna, dont you get piriformis

sciatica too?

this is when the piriformis muscle in the pelvis is irritated

and swollen or spasming on and off or even has been built up

enough to pinch the sciatic nerve which runs underneath it.

do these tests

Pir.html

to figure out if it is the piriformis muscle acting up or if it

is a swollen disc in your low back.

personally i saw the dr about the swollen disc one because i

could not walk without pain.... she had me lay down, tried to

raise my leg, and bingo! diagnosed in 5 seconds. that was years

ago and it is now fine but i do have to be careful not to tweak

it. i also get a pinch in the buttock once in a while but i

blast that out in the hot tub. (ie: heat and massage makes it

go away quickly)

i hope this helps,

hugs - :*carolyn.

Ditto on all that Carolyn wrote here, including having had it earlier from a

bulging disk and later from the piriformis! The only difference is that I could

sit or walk okay, but I could not stand still.

Whether from a disk or the piriformis muscle, the pain feels very similar, since

both methods are irritating the nerve.

Sciatica is truly a pain in the butt!

Such great information, Carolyn. Thank you. It hurts when I sit and walk, but walking seems to be worse. We walked the dogs this morning and I had to stop twice to do the cow stretch. It helped for about 3 seconds and then the pain was back. And it was going down the front of my leg along with the same spot in the back.

It's not hurting right now, but was a few minutes ago. GRRRRRRRR

I will check out the web site. Thank you so much!!!

Paying close attention to it today, it is worse when walking. In fact, it almost brings it on. I also think standing brings it on too. While walking it hurts down the front of my thigh. I'm sure this is temporary and will go away. I'm just hoping it does very soon.

I did the two stretches from the web site and it didn't matter for either one. It felt the same.

ooh - just clickec on this one - my chiro has done the straight leg test on me whenever i have a flare up - and i guess the good news is - not a disc! :)He also does the other test and I think mine is definately the pelvic entrapment..which is also probably why my hip flexors get messed up!Donna

I did both stretches and neither one made a difference.
