Guest guest
Besides making the goal measurable (I want to lose "x" number of pounds) and having an ending date (by such date,) I would have long and short term goals. For example, my goal is to lose 84 lbs and to me that is very overwhelming so on my weigh-in post I have listed short term goal weights, one every 5% weight loss (from my heaviest weight.) That way I won't feel like giving up because my goal seams so far away. I also write out a list of specific steps to reach both my long term and short term goals. For example, I'm starting to exercise again so my short term goal is to exercise at least 4 days a week. I will follow my healthy eating plan 5 days a week or whatever I set up for myself and still allow myself some freedom to choose a piece of cake or pie once or twice a week (that's not what I'm doing, it's just an example.I hope that helps too...I have an article somewhere about goal setting.... Guest guest
Excellent reminder, Jen, thanks! As part of my intro to WW for new members I always suggest doing short-term goals instead of looking towards the longer term one because it is much more motivating when you see yourself making progress. It all eventually adds up to the big goal too. Thanks for reminding me of that! Guest guest
That's how I write up my New Years Resolutions but I call them goals instead of that because you know what happens to resolutions...they disappear by February! I've done pretty good the last two days with food and exercise...now I just have to keep it up! Guest guest
Same here, with the goals vs. resolutions. Just the word "goal" seems more permanent and more real than "resolution" for some reason! :-) Keep doing great, you can if you want it badly enough! Guest guest
If I go by my all-time high weight of 220, I lost 40 lbs but regained about half back....I was afraid of succeeding....crazy I know. When I got down to 180, it scared me, I haven't weighed that in forever! So yes, I know I CAN do it. Guest guest
Not crazy at all. A lot of people are like that. Afraid that if they succeed in losing, they won't be able to keep it off, afraid of bringing too much attention to themselves, all kind of reasons. Once you deal with those fears you're much more able to go the distance so it sounds like you're on the road!
