we raked today. I was out there for about 1 1/2 hours which is probably more than 5 times as much as I've ever lasted

How nice! Never thought of a "raking day" maybe we need to start something like that at our house.

I'll bet you burned some calories.

And core too! I was aware of that as soon as I started, I could really feel it in my core and recognized that I needed to tighten my abs to keep from feeling it in my back! I don't know if I'll get DOMS from it but it was really interesting seeing it from a fitness standpoint instead of just ticked that I had to do it! :-)

It was nice being involved in a common task and working together, even though we weren't always working in the same areas of the yard. We looked back on our work and said, "Wow! We did all that... together too!"

The kids liked celebrating with pizza too (and I can't say I minded)!

Excellent, ! We have an acre, also w/ tons of big trees and leaves. DH did the front yard by himself on Sat while I took to riding lessons and a playdate - we all meant to go out Sunday for the back, but never made it there. If things are "normal" though, we have a longer period of mild weather than you up in Michigan, so hopefully we'll still have a couple of weeks to get it done!!! :)

We have about a 1/2 acre lot with LOTS of BIG trees with LOTS of leaves. They're just about all down now and we had a family raking afternoon! I haven't raked in a few years. I always hated it because I'd get so tired so fast so I've avoided it. Well, since we came up with the idea to make sure all 4 of us had good rakes to use (we had a few half broken ones last year so that was another good excuse not to rake) and since I said yesterday, "We'll have a family raking day" and DH promised the kids ice cream after (actually, we decided on pizza instead) we raked today. I was out there for about 1 1/2 hours which is probably more than 5 times as much as I've ever lasted. DH got the entire (much smaller) front yard done and the kids and I did about 90% or more of the backyard done. I only quit because I was developing a blister on my right hand and it hurt too much to keep going. My arms were fine and my endurance was awesome! At first,

I looked at this huge backyard, covered in a gorgeous quilt of leaves and thought, we'll never get this done, this is ridiculous. Then I said to myself, just break it down and do one small area (like our goal setting discussion) and move on from there. That worked MUCH better and a very short while later that area was done and it was on to another and another, then I wanted to keep going! The temperatures today were very mild but not a lot of sun, it was still really great to be out there. The kids, of course, made a huge pile to jump into and then play "Bury the Sibling" in but for the most part they helped a lot and it was a good day. DH just ordered the pizza and I'm going to go log it into my tracker. I thought about wearing my HRM to see how high my heart rate got (it definitely went up as I was moving fast and hard) and to see how many calories I'd burn but I didn't. I'm assuming I did well for 90 minutes of pretty continuous activity (but not

enough to burn off a slice of barbecue chicken pizza as much as I'd like to think it did)!

We got some hail and snow that didn't stay around long last week but we've been known to have snowstorms on Thanksgiving so it has to be done quickly! My DH likes to wait until all the leaves have come off the trees but they start coming off early in September! Drives me nuts. I told him "Next year, we're trying a new plan where we rake them as they fall." He tried arguing a bit and I think I convinced him when I told him that even though yes, more will fall, it is a LOT less overwhelming when you start with less than the entire yard covered in several inches of leaves! We'll see what happens. Meanwhile, we didn't get all the piles bagged up and now it is raining like crazy. Too fun.
