No matter whether it be bird, dog, cat or another pet - they are loved ones and it always hurts to loose them! I realize that you may feel responsible and that you did something horribly wrong. I however; do not share that belief. I believe that you did what was best for a dear friend and should try to find comfort and solace in having done just such! I know that it is hard, but we do take on such responsibilities like hard choices or decisions for those we love as responsible pet owners. You also have a responsibility to yourself and family. I don't think that if it was a dog that had turned on a child anyone would have considered it quite as difficult. In a sense and in God's eyes you set it free!
