Guest guest
Hiya Ingrid To answer your questions, this would be my response: 1/ how long does an average band last? I notice some sydbandsters are ontheir second band. The band will last as long as you keep it unless there is a complications. In which case you will have the band out and you may choose to have it replaced. 2/how do you know if you are needing a new band? Most people start to recognise certain symptoms that are consistent with a `slip' this can in some cases be rectified with fill removal and allowing the band to settle back again. If you need a new band, your surgeon will be the one to diagnose that usually thru a series of tests like a gastroscope. 3/how often do people get a fill? and how much does it cost on average? Fills are a tough one to answer as it might take as little as 3 or as many 10 to get what you consider to be the ideal level for you. And as for cost, some surgeons cover that with their package, some charge the Medicare only and some will cost you about $110 out of pocket – it is a question worth asking your surgeon as it is an ongoing cost that can be rather painful when you have to go back several times to get that sweet spot. 4/can you play rough sport with the band, rolling with kids and playingaround etc?I have never heard of anyone having any restriction placed on activities, people have been scuba diving etc with no problems. The only thing with rough activity I would see being a problem is evenetually when you have lost weight and your port is less protected by our blubber that it feel vulnerable. But as for the band, its stitched in place so its not going to go anywhere. 5/what would be one thing you would tell someone who is about to get aband, that you which you had known before you got one yourself? Apart from "why didn't you do this sooner?" it would probably be, socially it can be awkward but you will work out how to overcome the questions as to why you are not eating etc. My current `lactose/ gluten intolerance' covers me for most situations, also using the `I did Atkins and now I cannot tolerate carbohydrates, they make me feel bloated' or `I get heartburn from eating that/ that amount'. Hope this helps!
Guest guest
Thank you for answering my questions in such detail. You have been a wonderful help. I feel much better now, I will find out off my surgeon about the cost of fills etc, something I didn't think of before. Thanks so much again, Ingrid > > > Hiya Ingrid > > > > To answer your questions, this would be my response: > > > > 1/ how long does an average band last?
