Guest guest
Hi Sera, I am in the same boat as you. I joined the private h. Insurance ( hospital cover only) in February 2006. I get banded on the 21.2.07 with Dr. Tim . I have to pay him $3000 , but I know he ask now over $4000 and than the anesthetists(sleepdoc) $500 and all these little bits and pieces I had to pay adds up a fair bit. But I hope its worth it. Where do you live ? See u Sabine -------Original Message-------
Guest guest
Hi I live in Canterbury, and work near Parramatta. The price comparison list I saw seemed to have a huge difference between the most expensive and the least expensive. From what I recall (which could be completely wrong coz my brain is full of xmas dramas!) there was a doctor out west...penrith maybe? Or Castle Hill? Whose OOP charges were around $3000ish, whilst the mob at Ashfield was around $6000 - but that included some sleep study thingy. I was supposed to go to an information evening in the city tonight run by Dumbrell - but I'm never going to get there on time Still, he seems to run them fairly regularly, so I'll go to the next one on 21 February. Do you have to pay them up front - the whole lot - before they do the operation? Does this differ with different doctors? Do you have to pay the huge amount and then put in the medicare / pvt health insurance form and get refunded? Or do you just pay the difference? Good Luck with your operation Sabine. Its not far away now. You must be getting very excited - and perhaps a little apprehensive? Regards, Sera > > Hi Sera, > I am in the same boat as you. I joined the private h. Guest guest
Hi Sera, My surgeon is Dr. Crawford and his fee is $3500. Depending on your health fund you can expect to get back $500 - $750. I have no idea how much I will have to pay for the anaesthetist but can update you in a few days (going to have my operation tomorrow afternoon at the Mater in North Sydney Cheers, > > > > Hi Sera, > > I am in the same boat as you. Guest guest
HI, I'm also having my banding done in Feb 2007. I am having Dr Ron Peach, he operates at Sydney South West Private Hospital but I saw him at Ozmed medical centre in Penrith. I am only going to have a gap of $2000 to pay after the healthfund and medicare have paid their bits. Just a comparison on prices I thought you might like to know..... I am looking forward to the whole op, and lifestyle changes. Sabine I will be interested to see how you go since we are having it in the same month. Guest guest
Hi Sera and , I get banded in Feb.2007, I had to wait 1 year for my private health cover. My surgeon is Dr. in Belmont. I know I have to pay for the anesthetist $500. And Dr. will be $3000. I didn't know you can get money back for this fee??? Because I took the plain hospital cover I have to pay medibank $350 as well .But at least I am covered for the operation. To add everything together, with the fees to visit the surgeon and the fee for the dietitian it adds up a fair bit. Hope you will be all right. See u Sabine
Guest guest
Hi Ingrid, Wow. $2000 sounds almost reasonable!! Are you sure that's right? Do you know anyone that has had Ron Peach do their op? My only requirement (other than not tooooo expensive) is that the doctor be experienced at banding. I don't wanna be anyone's guineapig Feb 07 is getting awfully close. You must be so excited. Once the decision is made (to have the banding), it gets much easier. No more agonising over whether I can afford it, or whether I can tolerate the pain, or the vomiting, or the no more Mcs I wish you all the best. I really look forward to hearing how you went. Guest guest
ANDREA! Tommorow you are having it done? WOW. How exciting!!! You must be going mad with anticipation How wonderful for you. I'll be very interested to hear how you went, and whether you would recommend Dr Crawford (with or without the accompanying opera). Guest guest
Feb 2007 sounds like it will be Banding Month for sydneysiders It does add up, doesn't it. I think some surgeons give you a medicare rebate - but not much. I ended up getting the top hospital cover - just coz I didn't want any nasty surprises as I was hobbling out the door holding my guts together! Guest guest
Sera, no I don't know of anyone who has had Ron Peach, and everyone I have asked on here and Ozband site have never heard of him. If you look on the web he is a member of Obesity surgery society of Australia and New Zealand. OSSANZ. I asked at the hospital where he works and they said he has done around 70 lapband proceedures...Actually I just looked at the ozband site and he is on the list of surgeons in NSW. Believe me this is all I am going on. I hope he is good. I am in top health cover, maybe this is why I only will have a $2000 gap. I can just pray he knows what he is doing...Ingrid > > Hi Ingrid, > > Wow. $2000 sounds almost reasonable!! Are you sure that's right? > > Do you know anyone that has had Ron Peach do their op? Guest guest
Dear Ingrid, Only $2000 gap??? That sounds very good! I've noted that most ops leave you out of pocket anywhere up to $6000. I have top hospital cover - that's all you need for this op isnt it? Which hospital will he do you at? Do you think he is a nice person? Not that it matters I guess.... As long as he is competent. Guest guest
ummmmm, I hope I don't get any nasty suprises. I have asked for an estimate to be sent but haven't received it yet. The receptionist did quote around $2000 out of pocket on the phone. Maybe I had best wait for the estimate before I start celebrating. I know the hospital part I only have a $50 excess to pay but it is the Dr's gaps that are the ones you have to watch. Dr Peach operates at Sydney SouthWest Private Hospital.
