Guest guest
Weekend respite camp? I've never heard of that around here, but it sounds great! We send Elliott to a summer camp put on by the ARC and our local community college, but it's only two weeks and we have to pay for a helper to be with him ($700). The bus aide said today that they're not going to be able to transport him if he comes out kicking in the morning, which is almost every morning. Getting him out of the house to go on the bus is the biggest fight you can imagine. It takes both my husband and I, and we regularly get hit and kicked. We've tried every positive reinforcement we know of at home, on the bus and when he gets to school but nothing has made this time consistently better. So getting him in a different school isn't the issue...it's getting him there at all! Even driving him has become dangerous at times because it's so unpredictable when he's going to have an outburst. Has anyone else dealt with this issue with the bus? Thanks for the input! Barbara Mom to Elliott,
Guest guest
We got Elie OFF the school bus because of his out of control behavior even with a harness. The day I met the bus and saw him HANGING in the harness reddish-blue, was the last time he rode a school bus that year. We had an IEP meeting and the choices were I drive him and get paid by the district or the district used a district car and staff and drove him ALONE (sometimes one other kid, to school. They chose the latter. W/e once a month camp was offered by Camp Joy in Montgomery COunty. They closed this past year. Elie went there for 5 years. The camp was part of Woods Services run by 's house. I do not know if 's House has any w/e respite some place else, but worth calling. They are located on Concord Pike in West Chester, I believe. > ** > > > Weekend respite camp? I've never heard of that around here, but it sounds > great!
