A village for all of us - why Liz, Margaret, Desi, Cyndi, , Char,

Leah, , , , Shane, Irene, Ilene, Kris, Joann, Joan and all

of our group - whether you hear every day or are here sometimes - we are a

village - connected by our computers and holding each other up and holding

each other close. Neither religion, demographics, age, size, depth,

marital connection or kind of manifestation of our kid's disability change

the fact that we matter to each other - we are a family.

We all grieve together with Leah as we prepare to say goodbye to Ahston.

It has been a long and rocky road, but some great times as well. And who

will ever forget the joy of things that delight Ahston as shared with us

thru Leah?? Beautiful at her prom and other occasions when and where she

got to show her Queenliness!

God bless them with peace and comfort and understanding.  So hard.  Especially

the holiday.  They will remain in my prayers.  I am reminded by the comforting

words of the Collin Raye song " She's with me. "   Check out the video on

youtube.

" She’s with me

I proudly tell the maitre de as we arrive

He seems surprised

In a clumsy moment as he looks for room, for her blessed chair

A table stares, and their eyes show only pity

as they try to sympathize

Oh, how difficult that must be, look away

Day after day, they’ll never see, the joy you bring

Only happy at the times I know that she’s with me "

" I wear it like a badge of honor at the mall

I hear her call, the only way that she is able with a cry

Time to go bye bye, she can’t say why

Maybe tired, maybe hurting, God I wish that I could tell

Do I ever make her happy for awhile

To see her smile, makes my week, "

" Though she can’t speak,

She let’s me know she feels my love when she’s with me "

" I know just what heaven looks like when I see that perfect face

For no other mortal heart could be so fair

I myself so weak and weary, so imperfect as a man

How could I be the one you chose to care for our girl

Never done a single deed to earn the right to share her light

Though it’s such a painful road we walk each day

Lord you have your ways, this I pray

On the day I stand before you, she’ll stand right by my side

When you look upon me, head hung down in shame

I’ll feel the blame, she’ll look at me,

And then she’ll speak, in that precious voice

Don’t worry ‘bout him my lord, cuz you see,

He’s with me "

Shedding a tear for you and a big hug for your precious Ashton as I watch this

video...

Liz,

THank you for keeping us all posted regarding Ashton. My heart is so sad for

Leah and her precious girl. It is beyond painful and makes no sense, like so

much of life. I will continue my prayers for this wonderful family. Best,

Liz,

Thanks, please keep me updated, not that I can do anything. I know she has her

circle of friends in her town that must be with her. I could fly out if need be

after Zeb leaves to go back to college on Tues am. I am trying to enjoy my week

with him. He had not been home for almost 3 mos. I didn't realize how much I

missed him until he came home. My phone # is if you want to call.

There are no words, Leah. I can only offer my ((((hugs))), tears and prayers to

you. It sounds like your angel (and her mom) accomplished a great deal in her

short time among us. Bless her, and bless you Leah.

Much love,

C.

Leah,

With you in spirit. You mention about Ashton's " new orange polish " reminded

me of the picnic pictures under Picnic July 1, 2006; there is a picture of

her nails painted. The first 4 pictures in the album for the picnic are

Ashton with Liz daug Kris, her nails, we all in the pool, and Ashton playing

with TRex Margaret's dog. Towards the bottom is a pic of Leah and Ashton.

Sweet memories.

Happy Cameron and your mom are there with you and you have others around

you.

Love and Hugs,

Louise, Mom to 49, in IL

Dear Leah,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Ashton and all your family. As a

parent, I can't imagine the grief, but I think for our children there must be an

incredible sense of joy for them as their souls are freed from the burdens of

this physical world, like a bird freed from a cage and finally able to soar in

the beautiful sky above.

Years ago I had a very vivid dream about Darwyn dying. I was terrified and

screaming in my sleep, but as he swirled away in the ocean, he was laughing and

so happy with a big grin on his sweet face.

With much love and tears and prayers,

Hello Leah,  my heart is breaking for you and Ash.  I well remember the weekend

you came down to TX to visit with me and my family.  God, Ash and were so

young back then,,,.,who would've thought it would've ended up like this?

Prayers going out to you and your family.

Dear group

I have not been on for a very very long time, but something told me to check in.

I am stunned by the news of Ashton - I remember reading about her wonderful

successes in swimming and school. I always felt so uplifted and inspired,

hoping that my Aidan would one day have those same opportunities. Ashton's

story has always touched my heart - her generosity of spirit, her unspoiled

sense of humour, her persistence in spite of (or perhaps because of) challenges

and her innocence in the face of intolerance. Leah - you have been an amazing

mom to Ashton - she became the young woman she is because of you and your

example.

I pray now for peace and gentleness for you and your family as you journey this

incredible yet impossible path. I hope that the knowledge the you, Leah, have

been an amazing example of unconditional love and unwavering advocacy to us

other moms out here, lessens your pain in some small way.

Godspeed...
