Guest guest
A. *Ask about IV ABT - that is not unusual for mastoidectomy/cholesteoma pts. * Usually this is done with a pict line and can be handled at home. I would opt for this before more radiacal surgery - just my personal opinion . B. Ask of this surgery is to be done what will they do to preserve any or all of the middle ear bones stapes/malleus/incus. The more that can be preserved the bett that he will have some hearing left. C. MAke them - force them - push them to tell you the side effects possible ( tinnitus, vertigo as well as hearing loss) as well as facial paralysis. I'd like some advice from the nurses, please. Perhaps you could ask some > fellow docs their opinion. They did the mastoidectomy on Gareth 10 days > ago. Guest guest
many prayers!! I may be a nurse but I am not a ENT or doc, i would definately keep on those seccond and third opinions, save the bone removal and loss of hearing as last resort, and with antibiotics, but with the antibiotics be sure they do a Culture and Sensitivity report on the drainage from his ear, it will tell you what kind of bacteria you are fighting and which antibiotics will fight it and which ones wont. It could be he may need a picc line and several weeks of antibiotics, but these can often be carried out at home, depending on medical coverage etc. For nathan i always keep in mind to start at the smallest or easiest route and slowly build to the hardest or most drastic route, as needed shawna.   http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:51 PM Subject: Gareth  A. *Ask about IV ABT - that is not unusual for mastoidectomy/cholesteoma pts. * Usually this is done with a pict line and can be handled at home.
