**** I am sharing this ribbon to encourage others to sign this petition on

the White House website supporting Medicaid funding for people with

disabilities and seniors to get services in their homes and communities,

while reducing costs to taxpayers!**** ** ** we petition the obama

administration to:**** *Reduce costs by expanding Medicaid funding for home

and community based care for people with disabilities and seniors.*

Expand Medicaid funding for community-based care, which is the preferred,

less costly and more beneficial service delivery model for meeting the needs

of people with disabilities and seniors.****

Necessary cuts should be made to wasteful spending on institutional settings

instead.****

End the funding bias that forces people with disabilities into institutional

settings and nursing homes, making them give up their freedom to get the

assistance they need to live.****

Stop waiting lists for services that threaten lives and leads to negative

costly outcomes.****

****

Support people to live, work, and participate in the community rather than

in an institution.****

*HOW TO SIGN THE PETITION*****

There are a few steps, but it is not that difficult. ****

you will first be required to register your email on the White House site,

which is done to prevent fraud and spam. ****

A verification link will be emailed to you (check your spam folder) then you

click that link to complete the verification. You will be asked to enter a

new password twice, after it is accepted you can go to the petition again

and vote for it. Some people have had to sign out and then sign back in

again for the vote button to work. Most important, ask others to sign!****

*HOW DOES SPENDING SAVE MONEY?*****

The idea is simple; expanding Medicaid for community support saves money

because the alternative of what happens to people with disabilities when

their supports are cut off, is far more costly both in dollars and quality

of life. Forcing people into undesired costly institutions and nursing homes

just to get the assistance they need is financially, morally and ethically

wrong! Cuts to Medicaid shift the costs to more expensive spending. ****

*The petition was written by a mom, whose son has disabilities, who is just

trying to make a difference for him and others who have needs. If it reaches

5,000 signatures by October 28th, it will remain on the White House website

and an official response will be posted by the White House. This can help

elevate the issue, and the needs of people with disabilities and seniors,

into the national discussion. *
