Guest guest
I had to share! While at the children's hospital for an audiology/ent appt for my son, we met someone with a heart of gold. Upon entering the building, I noticed a girl standing behind the information desk. Immediately I had noticed that she also had down syndrome, and even though I know my way around that building like my own house, I stopped and said hello and told her and the other gentleman behind the desk where I was headed. The girl (come to find out, her name was April) immediately offered to walk us there " to make sure we go to the right door " . On the way, we carried on a very nice conversation, which included her asking Cody (who is 6) lots of questions and involving him in the conversation. Upon reaching our " door " , she turned and looked at me and said " you know, he's just like me. You are a very nice lady and he's lucky to have a mommy that loves him like my mommy loves me. " Needless to say, I spent my entire appts in tears. On our way out, April wasn't at the desk so I left her a note saying that I appriciate her helping us find our way, with my phone number at the bottom. 2 days later, I received a call from April's mother. April is 25 (same as me), and her, her mother, myself and my two children have a lunch date next week. She has offered me herself and April for any time contacts. It's amazing what one person can accomplish with just a smile and an extra minute of their time!
