Guest guest
Sue thanks for telling us how to get to the files. Apparantly I have an undiagnosed brain cell problem because I have been a member for years & never once spotted the handy " messages " at the top of the home page. Sigh. So I read the letter & am now totally confused. The letter I read speaks of the special needs scholarship. It does not say your school district or whoever is declining based on lack of funds. Actually, it is far worse as far as I am concerned. The letter states that your school DID NOT report your son as being enrolled for the entire year. Um, wouldn't that be out of compliance with NCLB AND/OR ChildFind?????????????? I know next to nothing about home schooling protocols. My mother in law in Mobile AL has been homeschooling a (typical ed) relative for the past year due to a school suspension and failing grades. I know she has had to coordinate everything with the school district from start to finish. The plan is for the child to return to public school this next school year. Is this how it works with special needs kiddos as well? Seriously, something intuitively feels really messed up here. From this letter I am imagining ya'll being off the grid completely. It should read: > Letter from DOE Carmen Freemire.pdf > FUNDING NOT REQUESTED > > For a little background, my son was enrolled on July 20, 2010. The school never provided any hospital homebound services, despite repeat documentation for the need by his doctor, including a legal deposition. > We are in the Formal Complaint process right now with an investigator (hired by the GA DOE...LOL...biased?). > It took 3 years, the GAO, the GLSP, a doctor's deposition, Parent-to-Parent, 3 advocates, talking to several attorneys, hiring our own attorney when the journey started and he was still in school, help from various groups + people (Sara + Bob, Mike ), and finally doing it on my own, in order to get to this point. (Not to mention 100's of dollars traveling from Augusta to Canton and doctor visits to get our repeat documentation filled out for years 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011) We had to get an P2P advocate (that took an act of Congress and 3 years and a few name drops) to get the formal Complaint form, as the link on the GA DOE website was a broken link. (I say was because they fixed it now.) For me, this is a little less than reasonable and makes IDEA a joke. The county I live in does not want to deal with it's children (special needs or not), and will spend more money on attorneys fees than just going ahead and providng the services. > It is so sad. > >
Guest guest
The issue is that I was inquiring about the special needs schoarship because my son was enrolled as a hospital homebound student all year and no one provided services. So, I wanted to know what his *worth* was as far as special needs scholarship was concerned to get services elsewhere. The presumption all along was they were willing to provide the services all along. They evaluated him, not in his language however, in September. We had a meeting in October. We kept providing requested paperwork. Etc.. The presumption is when a special needs child is enrolled in school, the school submits a request for funding for that child and has to report him for the months of October and March. To my surprise, he was *NOT* reported for those months or any months. The conclusion we draw from this is that they never intended on providing services for my son at all. Yes, this is very disturbing. Very disturbing indeed. This is why I presented this into evidence with the investigation. Yes, you are correct that they are WAY OT OF COMPLIANCE with child find, IDEA, and the list goes on. Hey, do not worry about being brain cell deficient. I learned about the files section after being a long time member of another group, also. I felt like DUH. LOL. Some groups, you can add pictures within the message also, but I think the group owner has to enable that option. > > > > Go to home page. Click on 1 new file.
