Sent: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 3:15 PM To: Subject: Z/Gareth update Hi, Everyone........I never would because I couldn't be there with Gareth. There was no way I would allow someone to do something with him that I didn't approve/see, etc, bec ause he wouldn't be able to tell me what was going on. They (school system) wanted to admit Gareth at one point and I told them the room would have to be for two.....him and me. Most of us start their meds from home....is that not an option for you? <<I think the anti-Parkinsonian drugs are longer-acting with better results>> I thought the Amantadine was great for Gareth till the horrible tics/tremors started, profuse sweating, and back to constant teeth grinding. The psych doc added another med to counter the affects and that caused Gareth to black out. I did LOVE the immediate verbal response that I got from him and the fact that he actually wanted to do things with us instead of veggie out all day in his swing.. Well.....we have definitely been down this road before. I'm asking that everyone keeps Gareth in their thoughts and prayers this Freddy. He perforated his left ear (3rd time this year) 3 weeks ago and they have decided it's best to go in and clean out the mandible bone (?) area and insert a tube into the ear drum - if it's healed over already. Since we are finding all these immunological deficiencies, the PCP and ENT feel that the antibiotics aren't getting into the bone, where the underlying infection just festers, and that is why that one ear keeps getting re-infected and rupturing when there's no indication of a cold or sinus infection. This will be the 4th surgery in 6 months........... Take care, Everyone. Margaret Mom to Gareth, 23 y/o, DS/ASD/OCD
Guest guest
Margaret, I remember. Gareth showed me and Zeb his Penn State ID. I don't think it's such a big deal for Zeb. He is most proud of the fact that he has learned to independently take a city bus to the campus and back to his townhouse. He walks a block to get the bus and it's a short ride to the campus. We live in an area with no public transportation. He has never been on a public city bus other than a school bus. I didn't even noticed till you pointed it out. Charlyne.....so glad to hear that Zeb is doing so well. I still remember how proud Gareth was telling people he was going to Penn State. Although he wasn't away from home, I know how much it meant to him. Take care, Everyone. Margaret Mom to Gareth, 23 y/o, DS/ASD/OCD
