Guest guest
Hi , I heard about Camp from another local family. We were directed to contact our local Elks lodge (which happened to be right in town) and the secretary of the Livingston Elks contacted us and mailed us an application for camp this past January. Campers starting from age 7- 18 yrs. are accepted. There are generally 8 weeks of camp and it is broken up into 2 groups: 7-11 yr. olds and 12-18 yr. olds., each group having their own assigned week. You indicate which week you would prefer your camper to attend (up to 3 choices), but it doesn't necessarily mean you will get your first choice. I believe the website is: www.njelks.org , where you can find the nearest Elks lodge in your area, plus if your scroll down, you can click on the Camp icon and see a slide show of the facility, plus local news coverage! It is a wonderful place, the counselors come from all over the world, often returning year after year. Many are special ed. teachers and the director and some of the staff teach children with autism, so they truly understand our kids and want to show them a fun week. Great respite for the family too! I hope and will meet up in the future- that would be awesome!! Best of luck, To: From: macookson@... Guest guest
will be 7 in April, so maybe! The respite is great, but it's also hard sending my wandering, nonverbal little boy to sleep-away camp. Sometimes I think I need to let the village help a little more, but it's so hard to let go. When do you pick up? I can't wait to hear how the rest of his week went. Sent from my iPhone > > Hi , > > I heard about Camp from another local family. Guest guest
Hi , I know what you mean- is a wandering, nonverbal little boy too! I was amazed how well equipped the staff is to deal with everything our kids could potentially do. There are even " alarm alerts " on the cabin doors at night, just for the elopers, lol, with non-stop attention from the staff. It's great to know that Camp is there when you think is ready for it. We pick up tomorrow and will fill you in on more details after that. - To: From: macookson@... Date: Fri, 19 Aug 2011 00:11:01 -0400 Subject: Re: / FW: at camp will be 7 in April, so maybe!
