Guest guest
I don't know if this is of interest to anyone or not. I have a list of things that we need to do, to prepare our daughter for emergencies, and it looks like this upcoming hurricane will be one of those times. I pack 2 backpacks, that can hang on the handles of the wheelchair/stroller we have for Arianna. My checklist: 1st backpack *1.flash drive* with names, and telephone numbers of family, friends, and doctors and hospitals. This includes all diagnoses, physician contacts, medications and pharmacy, and copies of pertinent paperwork that an emergency medical person could access. I also have my small laptop computer with me. I have* paper copies also*, in case there is no medical computer available at the time of treatment. This is in a snack size zip lock bag, and attached to her wheelchair. If your child can walk, you can put the zip lock bag in a sock, and tie to a belt or through a button hole in a shirt. 2. full bottle of all* medicines*, and syringes, and medicine cup, including Tylenol and allergy medicine 3. bottled* water*(3 bottles per person)and *pediasure* 4. *food:* tuna fish, sardines, can opener, peanut butter, and crackers (with packets of mayonnaise, mustard, etc. that I save from trips to the hospital and eating out). *Plastic utensils*, napkins and/or plates and cups. Other snacks if there is room in the bag for them. Make sure they are ones your child really likes. 5.fruit snacks, small juices, carrot sticks, apples, oranges, grape, cereal, raisins, cookies, pudding and jello cups, pretzels. 6.*flashlight* and extra batteries 7.extra *eyeglasses* and a hard case for glasses, spare set of *keys*, for car and home. 8*.MP3* player and extra fully charged batteries (to keep Arianna entertained in a power failure). Back-up CDs and CD player with extra batteries. 9.*cell phone*, camera (if there is room), and extra batteries, 10.*Noah radio*, portable battery operated TV, 11.*cash* and credit cards, check book, license or other ID, medical cards, insurance papers, car registration, handicap tags, etc. Put in a zip lock bag, but keep copies on a flash drive. You can carry most of these in a sock or pantyhose tied to your bra, if a woman, or t-shirt strap, if a man. 2nd back pack 1.*diapers* and diaper care products, including wipes and hand sanitizer, disposable gloves, face masks and *chux pads*. Don’t forget skin care creams. 2.change of *clothes*, and raincoat, sweater, boots, extra socks and underwear, or other appropriate clothing that includes for night time, and no power. 3.*first aid kit*, with OTC meds, bandaids, ace bandages, etc. Other ideas: 1.Let family and friends know ahead of time, the *evacuation plan*, and meeting places, especially if cell phones do not work. 2.Fill the *bathtub* with water, for cleaning, if you don't have to evacuate. 3.plug in *car refrigerator* if power is out, for medicines etc. 4.recharge cell phone *in car* if power is out. 5. List of radio stations that work in your area, emergency numbers: fire, police, ambulance, gas and electric, water, and insurance company. (tent and rope and duct tape, blanket or sleeping bag, and trash bags and zip lock bags, if evacuating.). 6.Put refrigerator on highest cold level, and freeze as much water as you can. This frozen water can be used in the refrigerator later, to keep things cooler longer, in a power outage. 7.Porta-potty and toilet paper in an interior room, away from windows. 8.Sand bags around doorway openings and window wells, to divert the water away from house.
