Guest guest
I know people who have dogs and it has been a God send for them in many ways. Be very careful who and where you get the dog there is one company in my state of NC that I would NOT use. Really research if you are using a person and not Canine for Companions or one of the other big ones. Zahn mtzahn@... > I want one for my son Eli actually you can start to apply at the time the child is 5yrs. old and I did but have not finished the application process. I was told is a 6 step application process, I have read on Autism and a service dogs very good things including for reducing certain behaviors this is one of my main goal with a service dog. In my opinion if your child loves dogs then it's a good companion. I have taken my son for therapy at childrens hospital and I always tried to schedule the time they had the dog volunteers in the hospital never before had I seen the difference a dog can make in my son. The therapist used the dog to get my son to do anything they wanted and it worked on other occasions too much behaviors get in the way of the therapy but this was the only way that it worked. I have read that others who have the service dog take the dog to the therapy sessions because they do just that help them keep calm, focus, and reduce some unwanted behaviors. Well I hope this helps somewhat. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Wondering if anyone has use one or is using one. Guest guest
We have 3 of our own dogs we trained to be " working dogs " for our son. We have a local trainer who trains & certifies service dogs, she worked one on one with us and all 3 dogs, and it took a long time to get them passing tests and certified, over a year. We had our own female bred for this purpose. The reason for training all 3 was for each of us to have one. It was always our intent to sell two and keep the one that worked best with Lu. Then life threw us a curve and we kept all 3. Jaylene mom to Luca 28 Re: Service dog... Guest guest
I am so glad you have this opportunity. When I looked in 1999 for a dog for Elie, 4 PAWS would not consider a child who was 'retarded' even with the autism dx. We tried to train a dog ourselves, but that ws not terribly successful. Guest guest
Hi , You guys are the reason we decided to go the service dog route. You had great stories of success and we were inspired. We actually met once at a DS plus mtg. We absolutely had a great experience with 4 paws. Sent from my iPhone > We also have a dog from 4 PAWS. We have had Akira for 4 1/2 years. Logan is 12.
