OH thanks....he never actually got out but he has fiddled with the door...now,

though, I will have to take one of those things you recommended as I am sure he

can get doors open now..see....a developmental milestone that took place since

last summer!! =-)Anne

..

OMG how frightening to be on vacation and your child got out. I have

travel alarms that I take with me to put on doors and windows. Once got out

at home so we have alarms that stick to doors/door frames. I bought ours at

Walgreens. I have seen travel alarms. Cyndi Burns

Anne, Oh I am glad to hear he never got out. On the issue of the milestone one

one hand we are proud when they learn to do something independent and on the

other scared that they might get out and get lost. My sons therapist wanted me

to teach to use a microwave but I could see spilling and burning

himself. What do you do?? I will cook and he can feed himself. Now I am not

trying to keep a baby but he will never be able to live independently even

thought I would love for to be independent. Just not going to happen. Cyndi

Spill and burn?? We taught Elie to use the micorwave (and we found one with

a dial rather than numbers so we can tape where he is to stop! )

He makes pizza in the microwave. or those gross awful store bought

hamburgers (but he can do it himself). Popcorn. Toaster tarts, waffles.

Nothing liquid. HE doesn't even know that liquids can go in there. And he

has a special mitt he uses to remove anything from the microwave.

No risk - no learning!!! Reduce the risks and let him learn.

That is such a great idea I will try to remember that for when my son gets a bit

older " Reduce the Risk " is great!

peanut butter--as nathan even at the soon to be age of 20 still has a difficult

time spreading weve tried numerous kithen tools, but he doesnt care if he just

has a glob in the middle, will eat it that way if i dont get in the kitchen

Elie still cannot spread most things - altho if the Peanut butter hits the

hot toast he can sort of spread it with one of those 'sandwich spreaders'.
