I need some help to change my son's medical report. I have read and reread

's Law, but I cannot find where it prevents a medical professional from

using the term " mental retardation " and instead replacing it with " intellectual

disability " . Just this week, I had a doctor tell me that until the new DSM

manual comes out, they cannot change the term from mental retardation (funny,

this same doctor says they were taking into consideration the latest version of

autism standards in the DSM-V, but they would not take into consideration the ID

instead of the MR.

I need some ammo to stand up to this doctor and get her to change the report.

You won't like this response but here it is: In the realm of medical care,

services rendered, or day to day status, what difference does it make to

your son's life??

People using the term MR towards your son or to prevent him from doing

something - now if that were the case, I could see an argument for

requesting the change to ID. Remember how much money GA is wasting changing

all their stationary to ID? That moeny could be used to reduce the waiting

list.
