Hey everyone! I'm 23 years old and I just ofund out I have RA about 2

weeks ago. I'm still in the freak out, what to do phase I guess.

Hopefully you guys can give me some pointers and/or advice about this!

My symptoms started about 6 months ago, I thought I was just working

too hard or doing something wrong that was making me hurt so bad. Then,

in the past month or so it go unbearable! My hands, wrists, knuckles,

elbows, neck and shoulders are affected the worst. My boyfriend has to

brush my hair for me!!!! (he is NOT good at it)

The Dr started me on Methotrexate, and just gave my ibuprofen for the

swelling (not doing any good I might add). My hands and wrist are so

sore at this point I find it hard to write or even brush my teeth. How

long did it take for the Methotrexate to take effect on any of you?

Are there any ways to make the little thing I have to do during the day

easier?

Sorry for the long rant, I'm just so confused and overwhelmed at this

point.

Welcome !

So sorry you had to become a member of this club. I hear ya, when you're talking

about your bf brushing your hair. Methotrexate usually takes about six to eight

weeks to take effect. However, I was lucky because it only took three weeks in

my case. The relief was miraculous. Although it didn't take all the pain away,

I knew with certainty that it was doing its work. Try to get your doctor to put

you on a stronger anti-inflammatory to help you through the first little while.

I found that I was putting so much energy into getting rid of the pain at first

that I had little energy for anything else. Ibuprophen is good if you have

nothing else, but it plays havoc with the lining of your stomach. There are

other anti-inflammatories out there (even the old ones) which do a decent job

without hurting your tummy. Hang in there, girl.

Hi:

Welcome to the group - this place has been a wonderful

source of support and information to me, and I am sure

you will find it helpful as well. It is completely

normal to be confused and overwhelmed by RA - believe

me, I was dx 6 years ago, but still have feelings like

that from time to time lol.

I am on Mtx now, have been for 3 years, and it took

about 2 months for the Mtx to begin helping. How long

have you been taking the Mtx? Are you also taking

Folic Acid? That is important when you are on Mtx,

and I also take Milk Thistle to further protect my

liver. If the ibuprofen is not working, you need to

let your doctor know, and he might have another med

which would be more helpful. There are other meds

that can be tried if the Mtx does not work.

Sometimes it takes a few different meds in different

combinations to find the right ones for you.

Currently, I am taking Mtx, Enbrel, Mobic and

Tramadol, but have also been on Arava, Plaquenil,

Celebrex, Bextra, Minocycline, and Lodine. So, if one

does not help, you can always try another, or add on.

Hope this was helpful to you, I hope that today is a

better day for you.

recently I have RA. I feel your pain! It turned off cold here in

Alabama last night and I got my first feel for what the cold will do

to me. Take care!

I live in Wisconsin! I am terrified to see what the winter's going to do. I

hated winter already! It's been getting pretty cold here lately and I've

been having a heck of a time getting up in the morning.
