My boys are so bad about this. I think with Tony it really is a part of his

Tourette's but I believe he has some control and I know Isaac has control

over it so at our supper table, when the burping starts there is a warning

and more burping means no dessert. I try not to mention this when we don't

have dessert and sometimes I scramble to think of a dessert if I need to

exert influence.

We have also restricted their root beer with the warning, " I don't know

about root beer. You two will start burping and I don't like that " .

This has worked for us - though I do think it started as a part of Tony's

Tourette's but I think he has a choice in how bad it gets.

This may not be helpful if you think there is a medical reason for his

burping.

Tony also chokes when he has post nasal drip because he doesn't know to

clear his throat or blow his nose like we do so that's what we tell him to

do when he chokes. For us, it's okay that these bodily functions happen,

just don't make it worse than it needs to be and learn how to handle them.

Subject: Burping, excessively, spitting up.

OK, so Nick has been doing this burping thing since last summer. We thought

it was because he turned 13 and learned it at school, I still think that is

part of it. But he does it to the point of spitting up. And the burps are

huge, as some of you have seen at our get togethers. We tried an acid reflux

med, no difference. He gobbles his food and uses a straw to drink, so I know

he is swallowing plenty of air. But he has always been like that. Any

ideas???

Thanks!!!

Joni: Tori is the expert burper...and vlerper. Tori has GERD which alot of

our kiddos have due to the low muscle tone of their esophagas. I would def

have him seen by a GI.
