We got Aden an iPod touch and it works well for him. It & #39;s small enough to

fit in a pocket but he can play videos and games on it. And we loaded verbal

victor onto it for a speech device. Verbal victor is only $7 so for a to go

speech app it & #39;s well worth the money. Also with the iPod touch you can

choose the amount of memory you need. My only regret is I should have bought one

with more memory (seems like a problem I have with all my computer stuff)

I agree. Tony really likes his iPod touch. We always buy refurbished iPods

from Apple. I think they are $50 of the regular price, they are under a

warranty for the first year and we have never had trouble. I need a

warranty for when Tony leaves it outside in the yard and I accidently mow

over it - but they don't have that kind of warranty. And while we haven't

trained Tony, I have trained myself to know where his iTouch is before

mowing the yard.

The apps are a lot of fun. Tony plays Shapebuilder to calm himself down.

They are 12 piece puzzles. I should try and find him a more difficult

puzzle app but he does love reptition.

I'd think an iPad or iTouch would be pretty good. IPad is bigger for fingers

that have trouble with little screens. You can download Tv shows, movies and

apps for fun games that don't need internet connections to be played (just to

download).

I-pod touch (whatever) help!

I need some advice and I am not up at all on the latest devices. I want

to get something small to take to doc appts. etc. to keep her

occupied. Something that I don't have to necessarily have Wi Fi to use -

something that I could download music, videos, apps -something simple.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Pete loves his iTouch (what we call it) and one of the best uses is exactly what

you are describing. We have several favorite CDs on it, as well as a photo

album (he loves to look at family photos) and have used the camera function to

shoot little quick videos when we are out. Pete learned very quickly how to

select things on it and can even insert the headphones- quite a fine motor task

for him- by himself. He has favorite youtube songs and clips when WiFi is

available.

We are getting ready to start checking out some of the many apps available for

communication. Pete isn't interested (so far as I can tell) with playing games

or puzzles, although I haven't explored these very much.

A great investment!

We have a silicone cover for it with a clear plastic " skin " over the face. Pete

tried to take the cover off a few times, but has been agreeable to leaving it

alone (so far). He has tossed it once or twice, but not with any force. For the

most part, he is gentle with it and hands it back to me carefully when he's

done. The best part is that he was already familiar with the device because

most people who work with him now have one- or at least a kind of smart phone-

so he knows that there are all kinds of things on there that he likes.

$699 IPAD $50 case. Works well with my son on the go.

Just make sure you block the setting that allows the to purchase apps without

the passcode, because they figure those things out very quickly.

We got an 8G but if I had it to do over I would get a 32G or better if I could

afford it.

64G gives you 57G actually. No need to get on-the-go wireless because once the

apps are dowloaded, they are on the device and besides the Internet is blocked

in the doctor's offices. IPad 2 has a built-in webcam (video cam/picture cam)

and is a little bigger (not much) than IPAD 1. They are exactly the same price.

If you order from Apple directly, you can get it personalized for free. Since

the personalized ones (like the one we got) come from Hong Kong, China, you will

want to be *metal* safe and keep it in a case when in use (besides it protects

the device). Do not order the case from Apple ; get a better and cheaper one

from Best Buy (that is what we did and got a nice leather case by TARGUS)
