Hi,

We had a great IEP meeting this morning. We've been talking to the teacher

about 's aggression with other kids and also the stroller-tipping, she

keeps saying they don't see it at school. So today, I brought it up with the

behaviorist at the meeting. The case manager said we could discuss it at the

end rather than with all the other people there, but the PT and OT spoke up and

said " we see it too! " . So we all brainstormed about it. We came up with a

basic plan, the behaviorist is gonna send materials home for us and stuff.

Later, we were talking to them about how can't take part in group

activities--karate class, group gymnastics, the pre-K soccer clinic--and asked

how to get him there. The PT said that we need to be as structured at home as

the school is...and that with (DS10) getting more mature, that should be

do-able. That's where I started explaining to them that while 's getting

bigger, and stronger, and is GREAT with , he's also very defiant and

oppositional, throws things at us, screams at us, and that and Annika can

be playing nicely for a while but the instant walks in, there's screaming.

It's crazy-making. I told them how 's therapist is working with the family

but as soon as we come up with a new behavior plan, my born lawyer finds

the loopholes. They know that I love my kids, they truly do, but I was really

letting them know how it is. So while I was telling them this, the case mgr

emailed her boss and asked permission to send a behaviorist and teacher into the

home to work with us. The behaviorist is once a month. The teacher is an hour

a week ('s teacher volunteered). They want to help us calm things down,

and get 's life a bit more structured.

Sigh.

I'm so happy to be getting help.

I really almost cried.

We talked about Annika, too, and how She's having a flare-up of her selective

mutism, I think she's anxious about the end of so many things...her dance and

gymnastics classes will change in a huge way because she'll be in all-day

kindergarten next year, so she'll lose both those teachers (who only teach

during the morning/early afternoon, and have been with her for years and she

loves both, dearly), and also her preschool and the teacher she's had there

these past two years. It's enough to make any 4-year-old anxious! Annika is

suddenly very clingy and refusing to speak to adults other than me and DH, which

is how she reacts to stress. Anyway, there's just so much going on around here

right now.

It's never been easy, but recently it's been more stressful than ever.
