Guest guest
Donna, It is the same with he will bite when he gets excited, but it is hard for his brothers to understand. Alek is 7, is 6, Logan is 3, and Liam is 1. and of couse who is 5. All boys. My ppt is tommarow!! I am excited and nervous at the same time. I am an aggressive person when it comes to especially and our school system. We live in a very small behind the times town in the northwest corner of CT. In the stix so to speek. would be the only dual diagnosis ds/autism in our town. In fact we only have maybe 5 children with just ds.So implementing a program I think is going to be long and drawn out but I am not afraid to take it thru due process!!!!~Did maddie ever throw things, and how does she sleep? Guest guest
, The on -line test is available at http://www.autism.com/atec It is basically a simple test for you to evaluate 's condition in four main areas -- these are Speech/Language/Communication, Sociability, Sensory/Cognitive Awareness and Health/Physical/Behavior. All you have to do is to go to the site and either file or print out a copy of the form -- this will give you time to consider your replys and perhaps get an opinion from other people if you like. You then return to the page and enter you answers *live*, after this you enter the data for scoring at the foot of the page. A computer at the site will then rapidly analyse your asnwers an return you a *score* -- as it is your first time this will be your *baseline* figure. From then on ANY type of treatment you give your son whether it is diet, drugs or education can be judged against this score and hopefully give a better result. The score should fall as improvements are made. ATEC have recently added a statistical analyses of the results found in the many children that have already done this simple test. These results will give you an idea as to where is on an ABSOLUTE scale in comparison with other children. You simply have to click in the fourth paragraph of the page. You could also go to Joan's Disability Solutions site at www.disabilitysolutions.org and read Volume 3, Issue 5 & 6 September/October 1999 - as well as Joan's own very piognant and useful article this issue also contains an excellent one by Dr T. Capone. the Doctor at KKI titled (Down Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum Disorder : A Look at What We Know) This gives all the main guide lines in what to look for in the DS/ASD condition. . Guest guest
what kind of things do you want tought at this time, are you leaning towards academics or activities of daily living? How old is trish again? sorry, i forgot. While we lived away from home the schooling was a nitemare so we homeschooled for a good 2years before we moved back home (many hundreds of kids homeschooled here) anyways during that time we worked on ADL's greatly and what they call school/academic readiness skills. mastered showering, brushing teeth, hygeine, dressing, and many household chores too, him and little brother help out weekly! Hanging clothes on hanger has posed to be a trouble spot but he is eager to help me, if not in his shell, and the readiness skills, i will have to look again to name them all, but they were things such as alphabet recog, number recog, reciting, name recog, cutting, coloring, glueing, nathan still has trouble cutting, and just scribbles for coloring but that is considered passing at a level, the line thing will come maybe, he cant write yet either, but can type with his index fingers. sorry so long, some things i could go on for ever, lol, I would deffinately see about getting an advocate they help greatly!!! They know the laws etc and make sure your school does what they are suppose to, if they cant then they have to help pay for your child to attend an appropriate school.shawna >From: Csvillars@... >Reply-To: egroups >To: egroups >Subject: Re: my 5yr old son w/ds@autism? >Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 20:09:34 EST > >unfortuneatly our schools are a little behind the times when it comes to >special ed, although the school will disagree with my opinion of course. >:-) > I have been asking for an aid for Trisha for years now only to be told >they >didn't think it was necessary and that was before the wandering started. >Her >first 3 years of school was nothing but a farce. Guest guest
, First of all I don't know what a ppt is? I know what an IEPis so if you have any questions about it please feel free to ask- I've had IEP for 18 years- so pretty much all thought public schooling. For your son that's 5 the close that I can get to your son's age is that I used to babysitt a 3 year old that's autism. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
