Margaret,

Zeb is graduating this year but I am not accepting his diploma. The district

does have a responsibility to provide education until age 21.

<<Anyone have any experience with their child having sinus surgery? >>

Hi, Everyone.....Tracey.....Gareth just had 2 sinus surgeries done over the

past month. The first one took almost 2 hrs and the second one, two weeks

later, only took 1/2 hr. The first time, the ENT found several large

polyps, super thick mucous, and bacterial colonies that had encrusted

themselves. The ENT said it's the reason Gareth was always perforating his

left

eardrum. G's ENT did the procedure a newer way and there was no *packing*

that we had to deal with. Make sure you find an ENT that doesn't do the

packing....that is so painful when they yank that out after a week. Gareth had

to have nasal saline sprayed up his nose every hour for the first

week.......that didn't go over too well but he's gotten use to it. The doc

wants it

done several times a day.........forever!!! Gareth has immune

deficiencies and can't fight bacterial infections. I would STRONGLY urge

anyone who

has a sickly kid to find an Immunologist and have them tested for immune

deficiencies.

<<My nasty district has decided that their nasty board attorney will be

attending Zeb's IEP meeting. I had no alternative but to hire an attorney

that I can lest afford. I am trying to best prepare for this

adversarial meeting.>>

Charlyen....I thought Zed was graduating this year and you were finished.

What's another IEP for?

Take care, Everyone.

Char: Are you saying they are literally " kicking him out " ?? Well, I don't

think so. Aren't they REQUIRED by IDEA to provide education until age 21?

Margaret,

I was certainly thinking about it sometime ago but was advised not to. I can't

comment on list. Call or email me privately.

Hi, Everyone...Charlyne....I know this but I thought you said a while back

that you were going to opt out of that....that you were finished fighting

the district. Is Zed going through vocational training or some other

program?

PICA....is also licking and eating non-food items. Maddie and Seth both

have this, if I'm not mistaken.

Take care, Everyone.

Hi Margaret,

I am repeating what the university director told me yesterday. I am certain that

they will go to DC with him many times before he is independent. He most likely

will not be the only student traveling. What employers did Gareth intern with

and what career choices was he interested in pursueing?

<<A very low dose .125ml in am and then again in pm for the first week.

Then it will be upped to .25ml for morning and night>>

Hi, Everyone....Bobbie Jo....I am wondering why Risperdal at such a young

age? Does he already have extreme behavioral issues and head banging, etc?

Like Sara said, I'd start with one dosage for a few days before adding

the second dosage per day. Also, I would recommend that you start at

bedtime, not the morning. It will, initially, make tired. As for wt

gain......Gareth put on 20 #'s the first two months, and then, leveled off.

<<They expect Zeb to be fully able to independently get to classes and

work by the spring. He will take the train to Washington D.C. I am still

trying to learn more. Last minute notice during my work season is

complicating my life. I am not certain if the Penn State program is the

same>>

Charlyne.....the town home and campus classes, etc, sound like the PSU

program only their students are not allowed to wonder around without a mentor.

There would be no way a spec ed kid could take a train or bus anywhere

without a mentor with them.

Liz.......glad to hear Ms Tori is doing so well. Pretty soon, she'll be

off and running again!!!

Cyndi.....please, continue to keep us posted on and your daughter.

Fibroadenomas are common Prayers still coming your way.

Take care, Everyone.

I am so impressed with these older students that have a career path. It is

making me take more seriously Isaac's desire to teach sign language to

students who need it. Isaac is quite the caregiver and he is very good at

it. When he sees other kids with disabilities who are not verbal he always

tries to teach them a few signs - whether they want to learn or not! But

this could be channeled into something productive maybe?

We always assume Tony will work in a library where it is nice and quiet and

where he can organize books (a hobby of his).

As a midesterner, Washington DC always sounds so big! Kuddos to you

Charlyne for having the courage to send Zeb along.

Margaret, what is the full name of the program Gareth went through. I would

like to google it.
