Guest guest
A few weeks ago someone had posted about the TASH conference and how they discussed using video to teach skills. I just wanted to share that we are using video taping to increase appropriate behavior for my fellow who is 11 years old and it seems to be very effective. He is very dependent on adults in his environment to assist him in maintaining his self control (in other words an adult always needs to be next to him or he will do something that he shouldn't). We made a video of him walking to his classroom in the am, him walking quietly in the halls, him doing attendance (his " job " ), him going to and from speech therapy, him asking permission in the sp. ed. room and him putting his coat on. It sounds like a lot but the video is only a few minutes long. The day after we did the video taping he started walking to his classroom by himself without any prompts. We have been working on this for at least 2 years steady. I need to talk to the teacher and see how the other areas are going but I thought even that was great. So, good luck to others that may try this. Karyn
