Guest guest
Hi all, My heart is with you all as you deal with all the issues at school. The responses are supportive and as we see no matter what age there is always that special person in our son or daughter's life that does make a difference. Hopefully more than one person. Even with our son there are things that happen that we have to work with the staff. An example is is hearing impaired with a moderate to severe loss in the right ear and severe to profound in the left. He wears two behind the ear hearing aids. The earmolds have to have the hole at the end free of ear wax or he can't hear a thing. So many times when he comes home or I see him where he lives he will indicate to me he needs a new battery. When I check he not only needs a new battery but the earmolds are plugged. On my To Do list is to make a video of how to care for the hearing aids and trouble shooting if they don't work. You will off and on find some people just don't get it how to react and help our loved ones. Then we go to the next in line and make our point, if not successful we keep going till we get whatever it is in place or settled. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful team working with . There have been times something happened and his Home Director was just as concerned as we were. 's Behavior Specialist is also great and we all discuss and think things through before putting something in place, i.e. a change in medications. Even with all of this we have to deal with what happens as it arises. Then there are the times we have to pick our battles. Example of this is we have pretty much quit mentioning about shaving. If we see he hasn't shaved or been shaved like we would like we know the majority of the times he is shaved. Some things we have to decide just aren't that important at the moment. Each age group has its own challenges that we will meet one at a time and move on and enjoy the wonderful times. Hugs to you all on this journey.
