Guest guest
Phase 1 of Dental Surgery for Luca was successful! Thank you for praying/thinking of & for Lu. I got the surprise of my life, the oral surgeon & his team were more prepared for Lu then I'd ever experienced in a dental environment. They were prepared for the autism in him. I felt he was safe and in capable hands. (More on the process later) Once in awhile life clicks. I'm so pleased and thankful for those rare to find for us professionals who truly put our kids needs within the process first. But before I get into the details one day I want to share Lu's humor & success. I was nervous for his post op check up last Tues. No Valium, he was to walk in that office on his own merit and have his mouth examined. This will be a first since he was 3 yrs old when I witnessed a meltdown I never want to see again. I played the calm, assertive mom while inside I was anything but! He got out of the car and walked in like no big deal. As I turned my back for less then 10 seconds to hang up our coats? He was gone. I see the only bathroom door closing and RUN to it, just as the lock turned. Lu's shut out time can be 3 hrs, an hour past their closing time. Naturally that's when they call his name. I'm trying to not panic while the staff tells me no problem whenever he's ready. I'm thinking ya right if you only knew? He's talking to his imaginary buddies, who knows what " they'll " come up with to problem solve this appt? 15 minutes later he opens the door. Relief...then I see that he's put his undies ON HIS HEAD and I now have a poo mess to clean up. Now? Why not. When we came out? The entire surgery staff is waiting outside the door, I froze, while Lu greeted them with smiles & his, " hey hey hey, " like they were old familiar friends (he never forgets a face). As they greet him they walk as a group escorting Lu back to that same surgical room (that looks like a sci fy space ship) and again I think sensory overload about to explode! Didn't happen. He climbed right up in the chair without hesitation, & opened his mouth for the surgeon to examine him. I was stunned by what I witnessed not only was he cooperating for the first time in his life in a dental office; but his mouth is all healed! Lu was complimented for taking good care of his mouth, while Lu responded by taking the surgeons hands in his looking him directly in the eye and saying, " yer rike, (your right) th th th th thank you, ma ma ma much better. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Remarkable. Love to you all, Jaylene & Lu 27 yrs old.

Guest guest
There's not a dry eye in THIS room either (unless you count my dog, she's sleeping!). What a heartwarming story! Thanks for sharing.
