Guest guest
Hi, Everyone.......welcome to the group. We have another Maddie....Donna's girl. I'm Mom to Gareth, 22 y/o, with DS/ASD/OCD. We first heard the big * A * word when he was 5-6ish, too. Like you daughter, he can communicate, chooses not to most times, and when he does want to say something, he stutters so badly that it takes him so long to get out what he wants to say. We're quite satisfied with a yes or no response for most things but I do get frustrated when he won't relay important information --- ie. when he was in school or at work now. I would love to hear how his day goes, even if it's just rambling but, if I ask, all I get is *fine*. As for her late walking, I'm assuming her hips have been X-rayed and all is OK? Gareth needed reconstructive hip surgery at age 15 because his one socket had eroded away. His knee patellas also *float* back and forth. Wheelchairs.....as a follow up, the Home Health Care guy and PT guy just left. They took health information, measured Gareth, joked about how *old* his wheelchair was, and will keep us posted as to whether it goes through the insurance. We are going for larger, air filled tires for outside. That might prove to be an issue but they said he definitely needs a new wheelchair, we may just have to buy the larger tires. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
