Guest guest
Hi, Everyone...Gerrie....Gareth has been on meds since he was 6 y/o. First, they tried the stimulants for ADD.....they made him more belligerent and oppositional. Then, he was put on Prozac....which helped a bit with the anger issues. At age 10, he was put on a Risperdal/Luvox combo and we haven't looked back. It was a blessing from God!!! His behaviors turned around, he started talking, we could communicate with him and actually go out in public again. I have found that, throughout the yrs, the SSRI's need to be changed back and forth because they do have a tendency to stop working and we can't increase the dosage too high. We have been going back and forth between Luvox and Lexapro for his OCD since age 10. Also, like many of us have said before, our kids don't need a high dosage of medication to see the benefits. G's Risperdal level is only 1 mg in the am and 1 mg in the pm (at 180#), but you sure know he needs that because we have tried so many time to wean him off it and it's heart breaking to see the ugly monster come out from him.....even he doesn't like himself that way!!! He takes 75 mg of Luvox each morning for his OCD. Take care, Everyone. Margaret Mom to Gareth, 22 y/o, DS/ASD/OCD
