We just bought a Maclaren Major stroller for Quinn, it only cost an arm :-)

It was $450. I just paid for it out of pocket and am now trying to get the

insurance company to reimburse me. When we tried to go through a medical

supply company the mark up was so huge my copay was going to be $450 anyway!

Good luck!

Subject: strollers & such

Welcome to all our newcomers. I'm new myself. This is my only post since my

intro but I enjoy reading the updates every day that I get on my email. You

are all so helpful!!!

So my question is about big strollers and bike trailers or make-shift types

of those things.

Jordan (7 yrs old, 8 next month) is around 4 ft tall and about 80 lbs of

solidness. If he decides he doesn't want to go somewhere or is done walking

or whatever he just plops down and there is no way for me to move him. We

took him everywhere in his stroller which he gladly climbed into (think he

liked the security of his little space) until it was just physically not

possible for him to fit in anymore. We've since looked for strollers that

would accomodate him and make it easier for him to go places with us.

Everything we've looked at online we'd have to trade both our arms and legs

for. This includes bike trailers (since he's outgrown that too). So for now

we can't take him to the mall or on a walk (he just sits down when he's done

regarless how far we are from home) or a bike ride (he can't peddle yet and

doesn't have balance to stay on a regular bike seat) or anything that we

were previously enjoying.

Anyway, has anyone had any luck finding something workable that is

affordable for either.

Thanks!!!

Welcome, all new members!

: Many of our kids do the stop/drop & flop and many use wheelchairs,

push chairs, strollers for mobility. We are actually waitng for Tori's new

pushchair (Kid Kart). We had her docs and PT write an eval..highlighting

the autism/hypertonia. Many ins. companies deny claims due to a letter of

medical necessity from a doc, but if a PT writes it, (since this is their

specialty), things seem to fly right through.

Hope this helps!

We recently bought a used Maclaren Major on ebay.  It was $250 but had to

have

it shipped from England for another $100.   I saw another one come up before I

bought mine, it was snapped up really quickly for around the same price.  My

daughter is not even 40 lbs but she is not a strong walker so we end up carrying

her if there is any ground to cover.  She is too tall for traditional strollers

so we splurged thinking this will last for a number of years to come.

Hey all,

Been quiet...sorry gang. Busy busy busy. All's well though. Anyway,

Maddie has a Mighty Lite kid kart type thing Liz. And yes, it was paid for

by her medical assistance insurance. Her school did the whole process for me;

I was not involved. I would have preferred a lighter Maclaren type like we

used to have, but in order to have it paid for, we had to go the *wheelchair*

route. The stroller does NOT even remotely resemble a wheelchair though.

They measured her ahead of time, and it's great. My only complaint about it is

it's HEAVY as all hell. But Maddie's big now, so I suppose we had no choice.

Hugs

Donna

When Elie hit that mark, we bought a special needs II jogging stroler. IT

was big and bulky an dhad to ride on the roof of our car, but we could go

places with it. Now that company makes one that folds better. It cost then

about $400. Sometime one can find used ones on ebay or craig's list.

HE outgrew that at about age 14 when he hit 130ish lbs. Then we found a

used w/c at a yard sale. My hisband put lawnmower wheels on the front in

place of the little tiny wheels. We still have it, altho he does walk much

more willingly now unless he is going to a crowded place. Tis w/c cost us

at a yard sale $75. Again - much more readily availaaable at the secondary

market - ads in the paper, ebay, craigs list. MIght even be able to find

one thru freecycle.
