Guest guest
Hi, Everyone.......welcome to the group. Yes, there are lots of us out there with kids " just on a more extreme end of the Ds spectrum " !!! I was always told " there are DS kids who talk and those who don't or there are good kids and bad (behavioral) kids. Geeeeeeee.....mine growled and had severe behavioral issues. I'm Mom to Gareth, 22 y/o, with DS/ASD/OCD, dx'd *officially on paper* at age 6....a rarity back then. We knew from age 3-4 on that he was different from other kids with DS, but never even dreamed of autism. Like many, we had to drop out of the local support groups because my kid was sooooooooooo different and I was usually sooooooooooo embarrassed by his behaviors. Only in this group of wonderful parents will you find kids with TRS (tape rewinding syndrome), EDS (Empty dresser syndrome), many not toilet trained, still wiping butts in older kids, etc. Where do you live? We strongly suggest that, in some states, the Autism dx becomes the primary dx for education purposes. It is the autism that will wreck havoc on their educational gains, not the DS. Cyndi.....I am so sorry to hear that is sick again. Prayers coming your way for both of you and your family. take care, Everyone.
