Our front window could only open 4-5 " , sideways, because of bars. Gareth managed to slip out that window, too, by turning his head sideways, and then, wiggling the rest of his body through. He then, thank God, went and rang the front door bell!!! Like I said, he was a Master Houdini!!! It turned into a game for him.......let's see how I can scare the crap out of Mom today!!! In this day and age, if I still had a Houdini, I'd go for the separate alarms that you can buy at Walmart or Radio Shack.
