Guest guest
We have been doing natural environment ABA in-home for year. I've seen some improvements in with certain things, but something clicked in me today after being at the NADS Conference yesterday and seeing Alice Belgrade the behavioral specialist (for the 3rd time) speak. is still dumping out everything - she can mess up a room in a few minutes and walk away. For a few hours today, I did nothing but follow her around. She's in and out of rooms, opening and closing doors, dumping toys out or whatever, and walks away. To start all over again after it's cleaned up. It takes forever to get her to cleanup so I end up doing most of it. She doesn't do anything destructive at all. Unless there is any kind of structure (like during therapy or at school), she has like a 2 minute attention span and every room becomes a target. And, she'll give me a video to put in, only to watch for a few minutes and then walks away. This is truly the issue we need the most help with. I'm thinking this natural environment ABA is not what she needs. I really think she needs behavioral therapy - a specialist/professional - not some person off the street w/ no experience and only a week's worth of training thrown on my daughter. What do you all think? Heidi -- Wisconsin, USA (Mom to 8-1/2 w/ DS, ASD, epilepsy; Clara 4) No two flowers bloom in exactly the same way, but all are beautiful !
