Guest guest
<<About the medication..is it long term?>> Hi, Everyone....I don't know what the *issue* is with sleep and autism, but I remember my husband and I taking turns laying in Gareth's bed while he played through the night. That was before we ever heard the Big A word at age 5-6. His Pediatrician back then recommended the Benadryl saying that it would also help with his breathing at night since DS kids have such smaller nasal passages. He's 22 y/o and still takes it every night......I would consider that long term!!! If he doesn't get it, then he tells me *up all night* but he just lays awake in bed, doesn't come to get us. He use to sleep folded over in half, too, before he got his C-Pap machine at age 15. Kel....a big Congratulations to and Merry Christmas to you!!! Take care, Everyone. Guest guest
Eluie also spent part of the nite sitting up folded over to sleep. When you think about it, it almost makes sense - sitting up helps breath better and folding forward forces the tonge forward giving more room for air to get in. Elie would wake up gasping like a fish and then sit and wail himself back to sleep sitting. This was before the wonders of T & A and Benedryl!! > > > <<About the medication..is it long term?>> > > Hi, Everyone....I don't know what the *issue* is with sleep and autism, but > > I remember my husband and I taking turns laying in Gareth's bed while he > played through the night. Guest guest
C-pap is a machine which delivers pressured air INTO the nose (and possible the mouth) for increased inhalation. Bi-pap is a machine which delivers pressurized air INTO and also eXhalations (altho I am not sure exactly how that works). My dh has been using a C-Pap machine for sleep apnea with a nasal mask for over 10 years. This year he went to Bi-Pap and a full face mask. makes interesting nite noises for the rest of us to try to sleep. Need I tell you that with Elie we never even got past the 'let's try this wonderful funny mask " for 2 minutes and then we will play your favorite music . > > > My daughter also sleeps bent over in half. Guest guest
Hi Ladies, Zeb was diagnosed with sleep apnea and a C-PAP machine was recommended, however, I was not able to even get the machine anywhere near his body. My dh has this machine so Zeb is very familiar. We are trying the wedge. It appears that he stops breathing when he is on his stomach according to the sleep study. The wedge prevent him from turning over. I sometimes find it out from uncder the mattress and on the floor. Guest guest
benedryl and his cpap, later a biap machine really helped nathan too. He rarely takes a benedry anymore. I think they tend to outgrow this, but not 100% for everyone. Both my boys go to bet around 10-11pm and get up by 730am during the week, nathan usually is up aroun 8-9am on the weekends, but occasionally it will still be the crack of dawn requesting his doghnut and coffee (a sunday thing with dad while they watch hunting and fishing shows ....men go figure, lol) We use to have to lay with him and come to think on it his little brother too. But they both outgrew it like all kids tend to do. shawna    http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Thu, December 9, 2010 7:59:13 PM Subject: /Kel  <<About the medication..is it long term?>> Hi, Everyone....I don't know what the *issue* is with sleep and autism, but I remember my husband and I taking turns laying in Gareth's bed while he played through the night. Guest guest
yes, a cpap is for sleep apnea. " continues pressured air pressure "   based on a level of pressure decided by your pulomonolgist. bipap is a two level pressure, it blows in at the high pressure needed to prevent apnea, then lowers the pressure so easier to exhale. It comes in handy when they have a high pressure as nathan does. He also use to sleep bent over in half when he was little, sit up lots and gasp for air. After he adjusted to the cpap, he was around 1st grade when we tried this route, way after t & a when he was a toddler, we had to attach a tennis ball to the front of his blanket sleeper pj's, so he wouldnt lay on his stomach or bend in half like that. His cpap even helped lower his behaviors as he was getting more adequite sleep at night so calmer during the day. shawna    http://sewshawna.blogspot.com ________________________________ To: Sent: Fri, December 10, 2010 10:41:05 AM Subject: Re: /Kel  My daughter also sleeps bent over in half.
