Guest guest
The flu usually lays me up for a week or two. High fever, body aches and pains, sniffles, feeling like I was hit by a truck. I'll sleep for a week. I never got flu shots until was hospitalized at 1.5 for pneumonia. Seeing my little guy fighting to breathe put the fear of flu into me!! Guest guest
You get the flu by breathing the 'germ' but it can also be spread by touching contaminated items and then touching eyes, nose, mouth. The symptoms are frequently diarrhea and throwing up - all of which spread the virus ('germ') because people do not wash adequately after being involved with the items mentions. IMHO _ the odds are better to get the immunization even without the Thimerisol. I believe (but have not re-checked this year) that the mist does not have Thimerisol. AND the single use vials are supposed to be Thimerisol. -free. BUT - you need to plan. Many clinics and docs do not have the single use or mist. Ask ahead of time. I personally make sure that Elie gets the flue shot in OCtober and he got the pneumovax as well as respiratory illnesses make him very ill very quickly. He has not had pneumonia since the pneumovax shot and has never had the flue. > > > We have never gotten a flu shot, that is none of my family. Guest guest
Sara, How many years does the pneumovax last?  I have heard 5 years and 10 years. Which is correct? Thanks, Irene ________________________________ To: Sent: Tue, November 23, 2010 11:25:10 AM Subject: Re: Flu Shot vs. mist  You get the flu by breathing the 'germ' but it can also be spread by touching contaminated items and then touching eyes, nose, mouth. Guest guest
I don't know - because I cannot find anything definative, I have been getting it every 5 years - and Elie as well. Doc said it was PROBABLY overkill, but he gave it. He has never had pneumonia, but when he read Elie's medical record, he decided that it was PRBABLY (do you note the not for sure answer) a good thing. For me - I get severe bronchitis which turns into pneumonia about every 2 years. No more chances for me.
