Sedation, beathing issues and coma??? Yup...that's the kind of stuff I always

find right away online too when I'm scared. I don't know anything about how much

you gave of each but I'm sure he'll be fine. You? I'm not so sure about lol.

Why do we do these things to ourselves? These kids have spent their entire lives

it seems trying to scare the %^$* out of us. I know you too have spent more than

enough nights just lying there watching him sleep, making sure that little chest

is going up and down. sigh. Will he let you sleep beside him? Is there any

medicine left for you?

's still rocking out in bed listening to music and clapping...hopefully

she'll sleep before 1 like last night. groan. I know I'm not much help....but

you go ahead and sleep now and I'll watch him ok?

Good luck mama Beth

Sherry

Just wondered if anyone is up and online and has an opinion. just could not

fall asleep tonight despite exhaustion. I ended up giving him extra melatonin

and benadryl to help him fall asleep. He's exhausted because he woke up in the

middle of the night 2 nights ago.

Anyway, i have to get up at 5:30 for work tomorrow, but now that he's sleeping

soundly, I'm worried about giving him both melatonin and benadryl together. I

looked online and saw a lot of things saying it was fine and some things saying

it could result in too much sedation, breathing issues and coma.

So now here I am exhausted but afraid to sleep myself! Anyone ever do this?

Thanks,

Beth

Thanks, Sherry and Jenn. I gave him 3 ml of liquid melatonin first, then 2 more

ml for a total of 5 (teaspoon), then shortly after 5 ml of benadryl. He's 43

lbs.

Thanks for the reassurances. I know I need some sleep; I'm going to check him

again now and then try to sleep, and if I wake up in the middle of the night

I'll check him again. That is if I can sleep.

I hope gets to sleep, Sherry. I hope sleeps too, .

has had a decent run of sleep since his tonsillectomy healed, but for some

reason this week he's back at it. I'm up a lot with him, too. Hugs to all of us

weary Mama warriors! And prayers for that he doesn't succumb to the scary

stuff and just sleeps well and healthy; I need to let God watch him while I

can't, if I can manage that.....

Haven't mixed them, we use melatonin but Darwyn (6) freaks on Benadryl. Could

you sleep beside ? That helps me when I'm worried. Even on the floor beside

the bed. You won't sleep well, but maybe you'll sleep a bit.

Beth, That's what I do when I'm worried about at night (almost always as

he used to have nocturnal seizures). I sleep next to his bed or in the bed with

him if I'm brave enough to not get kicked. He has a big bed. I know he was given

valium and benadryl together at the hospital one time and he was fine but we

have no experience with melantonin.

Beth, Sorry that I am on later when you need an opinion earlier. takes 2mg

of slow release melatonin but he could take up to 8mg of slow release. However

the 2mg works on . Now on the question of mixing. I am not a pharmacist but

I have given tylenol # 3 (codiene)for pain with melatonin, Valium's,and

other meds. What the Dr.'s told me is this. Melatonin the supplement is just

like melatonin your body makes and it does not interfere with other meds. However

I always ask the pharmacist to check interactions before I try a new med with

melatonin because pharmacist can tell you more about how meds interact. has

never had a problem. Now you maybe sleeper than usual I don't know but it

should not hurt him. Any time you are not sure call a 24 hour pharmacy even if

you did not get the prescription their and explain what you are trying to do

with meds. Also you can call Poison Control. My family teases me saying the

people at Poison Control are on first name basis with me. Cyndi B

Thanks to all. He slept fine; I got some, not much but at least some, sleep. I

am having a hard time waking him but he is breathing fine. So I'm going to carry

him down and force him awake. You all helped me get over my fear; thanks so very

much!

Hi Beth,

We recently put an airmatress next to 's bed, as he sometimes gets out of

his bed in the middle of the night and falls asleep on the floor (clam shell

position). When is sick or not sleeping as well, I will either sleep on

the air matress or in his Nascar bed, depending upon where he ends up. Both the

matress and the bed can fit an adult up to 6 feet.

Prayers for you both for restorative, peaceful sleep.

We give Asher 5 hrs 49 lbs 5ml Benadryl along with 1ml (1mg) liquid as well as 4

mg (2 tabs) time released melatonin suggested by Doc at bedtime and he is

sleeping from 8:30 or 9 pm to at least 6 am. The time released melatonin we use

is made by Twinlabs and is so tiny that he swallows it in jelly and never

notices. We have tried other brands and they are too big and he will gag and

spit them out.

When he does wake occasionally at 3 am or some other early hour, he is still in

a crib that he has never figured out how to get out of so he eventually goes

back to sleep. I may have to listen to him for a couple of hours moon the

monitor though.

My mom and step dad are almost done making him a special bed like the

bed... A twin sized bed with posts that netting surrounds. It is very cool and I

will post pics when it is done

Best of luck...sending sleepy thoughts to both of you
