Guest guest
hi mary sue that is just ridiculous, what a joke to be behind and not write prescriptions - it's not as if it would have taken much more of his precious time (that you are probably paying an arm and a leg for)! just wondering if you have a gp that you can explain this too and get them to write the prescriptions for you? definantly get rid of your rheumo, what a jerk! good luck mel [ ] Can't get a prescription Hi All, It looks as if I'm going to have to find a new rheumy. When I saw my current one a few weeks ago, he was behind and didn't have time to write me new prescriptions. He said to have my pharmacy call for them. Well, they have called and faxed and called and faxed since Thursday and can get no response. I called on Friday afternoon, and again on Monday, this time speaking to a real person instead of leaving a message. Again, no response. I am completely out of Celebrex and will be out of Enbrel in a couple of weeks. I know that this is a busy man, who has had his patient load increased since my former rheumy relocated. This is unacceptable, but I don't know what to do. I can't snap my fingers and get a new rheumy who will prescribe me medications before he even sees me. And we all know how long it takes to get in to see a rheumy. My endo, who is at the same place, has the prescriptions on computer and just has to print them out and sign them. He needs to teach the rheumy how to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions? Sue

Guest guest
Ask your endo to print out the prescriptions from your rheumy and sign them. Explain the situation. It doesn't matter WHICH doctor signs them....just that they are signed. Even if it is a 0 refill, it will buy you a month to get on your rheumy's butt to do something. You can also talk to your gp, and if you trust them and they are good, they may take over the prescription as well. Good luck....I've had similar problems, too, with a former gp. > Hi All, > > It looks as if I'm going to have to find a new rheumy. Guest guest
Sue: I don't know what to tell you that different than the suggestions that were already posted. I would keep calling your Rheumy and make sure that they know how many days you've been waiting for them to call the Pharmacist. Keep on them, and keep leaving messages if you have to. It really bothers me that your Rheumy is a " healthcare professional " ......yet he doesn't have the common courtesy of ensuring that you have the meds you need to function. If your med routine gets disrupted, you can get very ill. I don't know how you're managing with pain right now as it is. As a last ditch effort, can you go to your local hospital ER if you have a bad flare? That was how I was originally diagnosed with RA. Just a thought. Depends on what your health benefits are like, etc. I wish you all the best of luck. Keep fighting for your right to have medication. Please post and let us know if you make any progress. --- In , Sue <marysue@t...> wrote: > Hi All, > > It looks as if I'm going to have to find a new rheumy. Guest guest
Yes! this is good advice. Or send someone else in for you. I did this and they got really mad but my husband walked out with a handful of prescriptions. snowdrift52003 <snowdrift52003@...> wrote:I think I would go to the office, explain what happened, and say that you will wait for the prescriptions you need. Guest guest
Sue, Well that's just plain ridiculous!! Regardless of how busy a doctor is, usually his staff can look up the prescription in your file, and set it before the doctor to sign! Is there anyone who can intercede for you and go over there personally? I think my husband would have had the rheumy by the neck by now! Maybe your GP could help? Having his patient load increased is no excuse for not writing your prescriptions in a timely manner. What is he going to do for the rest of his new patients then, just not write prescriptions? I hope you are able to resolve this quickly--it's not fun being without your meds. Peace, Judi

Guest guest
Sue, I am kind of behind on posts, sorry to hear what your going through. This has happened to me also. I would go to the office, and not leave until you have the prescriptions in your hand. This is so awful that you have to go through this. I would find another rheumy if they can't do any better. I would let the doctor know also. Hugs, Tawny > Hi All, > > It looks as if I'm going to have to find a new rheumy. Guest guest
Thanks for all of the suggestions about what to do in my predicament. The trouble with the suggestion to go to the rheumy's office and wait for prescriptions is that it is an hour away, and my husband has to drive me. He's preparing for a pottery show and doesn't have time. I decided to go to my PCP's office and see if she would be my rheumy until I could find another. So this morning I got up about three hours earlier than usual and went. She wasn't even there! Just my luck! So I kept calling the rheumy's office until I got a live person. I asked her if the rheumy was on vacation, and she said no. So after explaining that my pharmacy had been trying to get a prescription for Celebrex since last Thursday, I asked what the problem was. She said that he is just overwhelmed since they had two doctors to leave. One was my former wonderful rheumy, and I guess the other was the Fellow who chose not to stay. She said something about getting the doctor on call to call in the prescription. But I still haven't heard from the pharmacy. So tomorrow I guess I'll try my PCP again and see if she will help. She might refuse. Sue

Guest guest
Sue: I know it's hard to stay positive right now, but keep trying your PCP and keep calling the Rheumy's office if you can. I'm sorry that you're having all this trouble getting meds that you are entitled to have. It's sickening to hear about members of this group going without their meds because the docs they are dealing with won't give them a prescription or don't think they need the pain meds. I hope and pray that tomorrow is a better day for you. Please, consider going to the local hospital ER if the pain gets too bad. Explain to them what is happening and I am certain that they would give you something to get you by until your next appointment. Do not suffer needlessly. Once the pain gets out of hand, it's very difficult to get it back under control again. Take care, > Thanks for all of the suggestions about what to do in my predicament. > > The trouble with the suggestion to go to the rheumy's office and wait > for prescriptions is that it is an hour away, and my husband has to > drive me.
