Guest guest
I am a mother of 4 and a full time student. My son is 9 yrs old with Down Syndrome. He always had certain things going on but within this past year i have started noticing behaviors relating to Autism. I am having a very hard time gaining the diagnosis as i was told by his developmental pediatrician the two do not exist. She passes everything off as Downs related and i am so frustrated! I feel like i am losing touch with my son and i have no idea how to parent him anymore nothing seems to work as far as punishments or getting him to eat, and even registering when i am mad or upset. I have no support system other than his workers who do see what i am seeing and i keep getting told maybe i need to change how i punish him but nobody ever seems to have an answer. I have tried to get him involved in different things in my community although there isn't much, but it always ends in a huge meltdown. He cannot handle noise of almost any kind, he runs after cars that are coming at him because he is obsessed with lights, he is extremely impulsive and it scares me. I honestly feel like giving up because i am tired of feeling alone and i keep hitting brick walls.
