Guest guest
<<Yes! we are Down Syndrome's " dirty little secret " in my opinion. Not only that but we are Autism's " dirty little secret " as well. >> Hi, Everyone.....I, too, have left the DS groups because of the 'issues' listed in your posts. As for starting a DS/ASD group, my heart would break for all the parents trying to decide to have an abortion or keep their baby with DS. If we all knew what we knew now, would we opt for the DS/ASD baby that we are carrying? I realize there are no 'markers' for dx'g ASD in the womb, but, to me, that would be a major strike in trying to convince a parent to carry their child through the pregnancy if there is such a high chance for ASD, too. How many times has someone said, it's not the DS, it's the autism I would get rid of? There are many parents out there that don't need much *concern's* to follow through with an abortion (and I refuse to get into that topic) . How can we put a positive perspective on our kids when no one wants to be around them when they are at their worst behaviors? Does that make sense? I love Gareth and he has made my life so much stronger and with so much more meaning, but..............there were yrs when it hasn't been an easy road traveled. Take care, Everyone.
