Guest guest
<<In PA with HAb workers, we used them for respite as well.>> Hi, Everyone....Sara....HAB workers are allowed to stay in the home and work on goals, with or without me staying there. The problem with Gareth is that he will go into his bedroom, shut the door, strip down and crawl in bed and refuse to do anything!!! That is not covered and allowed by HAB workers....they can't just sit and read a book, paper, etc., while the kid does nothing and refuses to interact with them. Take care, Everyone. I'm glad hasn't thought of that one yet. I thought she was pretty smart when she decided to just close her eyes and pretend to be asleep whenever she had to work with a therapist she didn't like. But taking off clothes and getting in bed just takes it to a whole nother level. Sherry
Guest guest
Sorry. I agree with Sherry. And am ROFLMAO. Actually, very creative on the part of both kiddos! Psst! Do not let DJ know about these two very innovative abilities. He just pretends that the person is not there by completely & totally ignoring their presence. Akin to " If I pretend they are not there, then maybe they will just go away " ... Hugs, Kris, still LMAO > > >>>>>The problem with Gareth is > that he will go into his bedroom, shut the door, strip down and crawl in bed > and refuse to do anything!!! Guest guest
It is funny...especially when the therapist really is a total bore. They usually make some comment about how must not be getting enough sleep, or perhaps she's coming down with something. And you know the very minute they are out the door she is up and laughing and full of energy. And she manages this sleepy thing while sitting upright in a chair. Sherry Sorry. I agree with Sherry. Guest guest
Hi Sara, Thank you for those details- they were both interestng and very helpful to know. I'm glad that ultimately Elie received the therapeutic services that he was entitled to according to his IEP/the law. Before I contact 's principal this week, I would like to be prepared with the " legal info. " ,if necessary, pertaining to individual speech sessions with that the therapist missed and have not made up. Is there a specific statute that I can could quote that applies to compensatory sessions? Is there a legal deadline in a given school year when outstanding sessions due to the absence of the therapist need to be made up? I have been a call to a local ARC employee (who is also a person friend already), but if you happen to know this info. already, please let me know. Thank you so much. Best, To: From: pastmidvale@... Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2010 10:52:04 -0400 Subject: Cyndi I was lucky in a way because I had a contact who wrote an opinion column. But the story that ran was on the GENERAL need for sped and the lack of trained OT/PT/SLP/ and the difficulty of getting the needed hours for the kids. Elie's issues were mentioned in the third paragraph down along with another 2 kids who were not getting OT or PT - but Elie also didn't get his OT. I figured a t that point speech was the most important for my son and focused on it. But we did the same battle over his OT> BUT the school didn't know what would be run until after our meeting - they reacted to a perceived threat when I read them the response from my contact at the paper that she would be willing to write an article on the dearth of legally requirred services in the schools in NORVA. , and to the fact that they were breaking the law - and knew it. In one month Elie had 30 minutes of group speech. He was supposed to have 30 minutes a day - split between individual and group. That was one month of 5 times 4 weeks = 20 sessions - he had one! As I told them over and over - if they did not document the received service, I didn't want to hear that he got it in the classroom as part of the classroom day . IF that were true (for the group part), then I expected a note each day in his book which said that he had group speech for 15 minutes. If not, just like in the hospital - if it isn't documented, then it didn't happen. I would go to the state site for regulations of IDEA and see if you can find it there. I klnow that compensatory time for missed therapy is in IDEA - but where I no longer have a clue. Hope someone current with regs will tell you. Waht state are you in??
