Angie:

Sounds like you need stronger pain meds. I've take Tylenol Arthritis, and

it did NOTHING for the pain. I also get terrible pain in my shoulders. It's

horrible, because you feel it all the time. It's especially hard to get in and

out of bed or to turn over in your sleep.

The only thing I've found to help with the shoulder pain is good pain meds

and soaking in a hot shower for extended periods of time with the water

directed right at my sore shoulder(s). Try and get the water as hot as you

can handle it.

Best of luck,

I have significant pain in my shoulders as well, right more than

left as I am right handed. I use my right hand and arm all day at

work as well. It gets so bad sometimes that muscles around it

fatigue and my hand will shake. I find keeping my arm in close to

body while I work helps, sometimes supporting it with knee when

possible and as low of dose as possible (during the day) Keeps me

going. I also go to physical therapy twice a week. I find the only

thing that works now is pain meds and that just keeps the edge off.

I have not found anything over the counter to handle it as well as

mix with my RA meds. Cassy

Hi Angie,

I had severe pain in my right shoulder a few years ago. It was so bad that I had

to hold my hand close to my body always, even a little bit of movement was

horribly painful.

I was in college at that time and it was very inconvenient. I delayed seeing

anybody about it because my rheumatologist was out of the country for a few

months and so I bore the pain till he returned.

I hoped my doctor would inject the joint with steroids as usual and it would get

better. But I and my doc were in for a surprise. Turns out that I had 'avascular

necrosis' of the joint. So no shortcuts with steroid injs.

I was advised physiotherapy, to strengthen my muscles so that they would support

my joint better (as my shoulder muscles had atrophied). I tried it for some time

and it helped. The joint's damaged and I will have to go in for replacement

eventually but the pain's reduced.

Perhaps you should see your rheumatologist about the pain if you can. These are

the medicines I take for pain relief. I take naproxen (naprosyn) with omez

(omeprazole) -to protect the stomach lining) for the pain. Naproxen is quite

effective and if you take it with food you may not need omez.

Take care.

Hi Angie: My name is too. I usually go by but I have been

called Angie too.

As far as this shoulder pain, I can relate to this. Did you hurt your arm in

any way?? I did with my left shoulder many years ago. It turned out I have

a ruptured rotator cuff. I am a nurse and I injured my shoulder holding on to

a patient who slipped in the shower.

I had to leave nursing because of it.

My shoulder was never right after that.

I should have surgery on it but my Doctors decided it wasn't in my best

interest because of other problems.

So, I have had severe pain for a long time and swelling. I am not saying

this is what your problem is. However, I do recommend that you get an xray, and

a MRI soon. First, go to a orthopedic Doctor, I sure he will order these

tests.

Good luck, I hope your problem isn't as bad as mine is.

Sincerely, Colletti
