Guest guest
very true. it is characteristic of autism to have difficulty with generalizing so the kids don't understand why they can play with shaving cream at school and not at home. My son always got in trouble for playing and eating vaseline (runny diapers always followed.) I began insisting that people redirect for lap sitting when my son's twin sister out grew it. That did take a few years for him to understand that he was not too big to lap sit. The tough part was strangers. They would think he was cute. this was before his sensory stims went nutz with puberty so they were thinking " what a cute kids with downs " .. The stranger would allow me to redirect him to hand shaking instead. > > > > > > : As a parent, I too would be concerned.
