Guest guest
Has anyone else read McCarthy's book? I don't particularly like her but as the celebrity face of Autism I wasn't to know what she was going around saying. She is just as crude as ever but if you get past that and the modge podge " faith " she has... I found a Mom just like us who mourned. The only things that hit a wrong note with me was her writing that all of her son's " personality " was from Autism and that she didn't know who her son was. The Dr who wrote the introduction stated that Autism " takes the soul and then sucks the life out of the rest of the family " . It concerned me that people who don't have a kids with these needs will think very very bad things and that anyone who is newly diagnosed will be fearful rather than hopeful. I'm just not sure this book builds up mothers or if it would be a stumbling block. There is definately a false hope to it as well. Not everyone responds to those treatments and not everyone has access to a Dr who will consider the alternative therapies. I mean who can afford to fly their child cross contry to see the BEST (fill in the blank Dr). Any thoughts? I'm just one... but I'm not sure I'd pass this book around.
